About the Books

Deadly Captive & Collateral Damage

By: Bianca Sommerland

This book contains material not suitable for readers under 18. While there are aspects of BDSM in several scenes, many are dub/non con. This book contains situations that some may find disturbing, including torture and rape which is part of the story and not intended for titillation. This book contains violence, sex, and blood, among other things. Reader discretion is advised.

Deadly Captive, Book 1

Lydia awakes, bound and blind, to the whispered urgings of a man who has his hands on her. His words confuse her at first, but she soon understands they are both in the middle of a performance that will determine whether she remains in captivity or dies.

The crowd must be entertained, and her cellmate makes sure it is.

Forced submission is not the only horror Lydia endures. She has no memories of life before her imprisonment, and Joe, her cellmate, is her only comfort as the powerful creatures that hold them captive torture and debase her. Together, she and Joe cling to the will to survive long enough to break free and seek revenge. Their desire to sustain one another triumphs over their wardens’ efforts to destroy them. There is no pain, no suffering, that can tear them apart.

Beyond their cell, their love is tested. Can they hold strong in the face of the challenge of the new powers they have gained along with their freedom?

My Review

My Rating: 4 Stars

“Something kept him from giving up. I realized suddenly what that something was- me.”

*Warning: this book is extremely dark. It contains acts of rape, torture, and unspeakable violence.

Joe and Lydia’s life together is set against a backdrop of horrors. They are the playthings of hideous monsters that will use their bodies as entertainment and torment their minds as well. They have only each other for solace and comfort, but sometimes even that isn’t enough. As they grow close, it become apparent to their captors that they are each others weakness, but they can not afford to be weak, not if they want to get out alive.

This book was constantly surprising. It seems that their was a new twist, a new horrific surprise on each page. Joe and Lydia are powerless, sitting in their cell and awaiting the next chapter in their story, and as the reader, I felt the same. The plot was jarringly unpredictable, with secrets being revealed and unexpected events catching me completely off guard. It is a wild, terrifying ride to say the least.

The author creates two very strong characters. Though it seems impossible, they do not break. They stay strong enough, barely surviving. They connect with each other, though the connection always feels tenuous and strained. A relationship formed in the face of such fear, secrets, violence, and unknown pasts just seems unstable. Their chemistry and connection is undeniable and a twist makes their relationship makes it in to something much more than I expected.

This book is pure darkness, laced with evil. The end offers a glimmer of hope, only to be shattered when it is clear that Joe and Lydia may never truly escape their tormenters. I can only hope that the strength they have gained from their time in captivity and the bond that has formed between them is enough. I’m not exactly sure how I feel about this book: it is difficult to put in to words. I was horrified, but completely invested in this intense, gripping story, and I hope the next book in the series offers more of the same.

“I would still bleed, I would still hurt, but I would do it for Joe. This time, we’d pretend this was our game, not theirs. It would be one hell of a show.”

Collateral Damage, Book 2

Stolen from a bright life full of colors, happiness, and youth, Nicole Reed is dragged into a pit of pain and depravity where all she can hope for is a quick end. But her captors don’t want to kill her. They want to use her to teach a little boy whom they plan to mold in their image.

She must free him before that happens. Only she can’t stand against those who hold him, not alone. Her only hope is Vince, one of her tormentors, who may still show a glimmer of humanity.

Or maybe that’s just a trick of the light.

Warning: BDSM, graphic violence, dubious consent, forced sex, forced M/M sex, less than willing participation in edge play, content that some readers will consider objectionable including hot sex with a drool-iciously evil man.

My Review

My Rating: 4.5 Stars

“I was a damned good teacher. But I’d been an even better student.”

A dark and terrifying follow-up to the first book in the series, I connected with this book and these characters just a little bit more. The monster Cyrus is back, and is continuing in his evil ways…

The book has a softer edge, if only very slight. It is still incredibly dark: rape, torture, death, and horror fill the pages, but the this story felt somehow more noble, more real, the emotions more tangible. A teacher who will do anything to protect a little boy, and the haunted man who will try his best to help her survive in the process.

Perhaps because these characters had pasts, I could connect with them on a deeper level. Their relationship, which morphs from captor/captive, to Dominant/submissive, and sometimes even more, is based on more than just what has occurred since Nicole’s capture. Obviously capture is what has brought them together, but the connection and need for one another runs deeper. Their bond, their trust, and their strength as individuals holds them together, helps them to survive, and even adds a little bit of sexiness and romance to a terrifying and harrowing read. I adored Nicole for her bravery and sass as much as her submission, and Vince makes for a hot, if dangerous and slightly unstable Master.

As in the first book in the series, the plot is fast-paced and gripping, and evil and violence await the reader at every flip of the page. This book has a few more moments that allow for respite, an opportunity for the reader to catch their breath, but the moments of light, though bright, are short lived. I couldn’t put the book down and was completely engrossed, horrified, desperate for revenge, and aching for the connection between Vince and Nicole. This chapter in the story, punctuated by an intense climax, is finished but it is clear there is more terror to come.

“Dependence and desperation didn’t equal love. I felt closer to him than anyone I’d ever know, but that didn’t mean much. I’d never needed anyone else to stay alive.”

About the Author

Tell you about me? Hmm, well there’s not much to say. I love hockey and cars and my kids…not in that order of course! Lol! When I’m not writing—which isn’t often—I’m usually watching a game or a car show while working on promo. Going out with my kids is my only down time. I get to clear my head and forget everything.

As for when and why I first started writing, I guess I thought I’d get extra cookies if I was quiet for awhile—that’s how young I was. I used to bring my grandmother barely legible pages filled with tales of evil unicorns. She told me then that I would be a famous author.

I hope one day to prove her right.

  2. Christina

That’s a hard question to answer! I can understand how it happens, however I’m not sure if I could look past that indiscretion to fall for him/her, ya know?

  3. Christine LaCombe

I guess it is possible to fall for your captor. It depends on the circumstances, like did he hurt me or just held me captive. I don’t want to ever be put in that situation though. Thanks for the giveaway. These books do sound really good though. I can’t wait to read them.
