About the Book:

Book One in The Dark Hart Chronicles

By: Alexandra Anthony

When personal assistant Savannah Wood lands a dream job with up and coming rock star Nick Hart, it seems too good to be true. He’s devastatingly handsome, reserved and charming…but he has a secret he’s determined to keep.

Their attraction to one another is immediate and Savannah is determined to keep a professional relationship between them. She’s been burned before and has no desire to reopen old wounds.

The lines between professional and personal begin to blur when Savannah finds out Nick’s secret: he’s a century old vampire with a painful past. He’s also hesitant to open himself up to her, yet they find their temptation to one another is stronger than either can resist.

The paparazzi, a string of murders and cryptic, ominous letters threaten their budding relationship. Will their attraction and love be enough to keep them together…or will it tear them apart?

*This is an erotic, romantic book. It contains sexy vampires, graphic language, adult content and situations that aren’t for the faint of heart. Consider yourself warned.*

My Review:

My Rating: 5 Big Stars!

“His voice tapered off and the intensity between us hummed. His fingertips inched closer until they brushed against my wrist softly. The moment our skin met, a jolt of scorching desire darted through me. I’d never had this sort of response to a man’s touch before. It was exhilarating… and equally terrifying.”

And this is only the first touch… it only gets hotter from here.

Here it is: I am utterly, devastatingly, and hopelessly in love (AND LUST!) with Nick Hart. Not only is he a devilishly handsome and sexy rock star, complete with a body to die for, an illuminating smile, wit, charm, and even humility, he is a vampire. A dark, possessive, yet emotionally vulnerable, in touch with his humanity, sexually brilliant vampire. Here’s my incredibly difficult dilemma: he is hopelessly, head-over-heels in love with Savannah Wood; and she is perfect for him. Beautiful, smart, cheeky, with equal parts toughness and vulnerability, and an amazingly easy acceptance of Nick’s dangerous, immortal nature, I certainly don’t stand a chance. A girl can dream right? Oh, and I will…

“His fingers gripped my chin softly, looking me in the eyes. ‘Honestly, I don’t give a shit what anyone thinks. I’m tired of playing around because I want to know every inch of you. And once I know it, I want to learn it all over again. Repeatedly and frequently.’ “

I loved this book. I absolutely can not get enough of Nick and Savannah. I relished in the evolution of their relationship; the initial slow build fraught with electric sexual tension, the first touches, the fantastic first sexual explorations. When Nick’s condition comes to light, it gets much more intense. Extreme emotion and trust come to the forefront as the couple fights to break down their barriers and come to terms with what is quickly becoming undeniable: they love each other and can not live without one another. And through it all, the sex only gets HOTTER! These two are so hot together, and the scenes have so many layers: fantastically erotic, emotionally intense, and unforgettable.

“I could do anything to you like this… you look so fucking beautiful. You’re completely at my mercy.”

Though I was totally engrossed in Nick and Savannah’s consuming relationship, throughout the book there is the undercurrent of an outside threat. Just as the danger is named, the book ends and I realize this story is just beginning, and I am absolutely desperate for more.

“So I’m telling you I love you. And I fucking need you. I want you here with me, Savannah. I don’t want us to be apart. Ever.”

Book Review: AS YOU WISH by A. Violet End

May 19, 2013 Book Review, Erotic Romance, Fantasy Romance, Favorite Books 0

Title: As You Wish

Author: A. Violet End

Release Date: February 2013

My Rating: 5 Stars

About the Book:

Annora is willing to do anything to save her father from the dark eros of an evil witch-mother and two demonic step-sisters. It’s a perilous task, battling such awful magic, but she doesn’t have to face danger alone; a fairy man waits to make all Annora’s wishes come true–for a price. This is not Walt Disney’s Cinderella, dear reader. This is As You Wish, a Cinderella story from author A. Violet End.

A. Violet End is the author of the Grimm & Dirty Fairy Tales erotica series, and the Billionaire Who…(Diary of a F*ckdoll) stories. As You Wish is her first journey into the realm of erotic romance. Now on Kindle, Nook, iTunes, Smashwords, and Kobo.

My Review:

Truth #1: I have never gotten over my childhood love of fairytales.

Truth #2: I love sexy stories and steamy romance.

Truth #3: With a unique and creative take on a classic, As You Wish offers the lyrical voice and tone of a beloved fairy tale, beautiful and surprising romances, all with a very sexy twist.

I adore the author’s take on the classic Cinderella: she adds her own unique elements, brings in well known characters from other fairy tales, putting it all together into an exciting and engaging fantasy with just enough smut.

I particularly enjoyed the unlikely, sometimes sweet, and often tumultuous romance between Annora and Charming. As much as Annora is a a classic fairy tale princess, Charming is far from the handsome prince. In this story, the hero is quite unexpected.

All of the elements are present: evil demoness step-sisters, a handsome prince in need of a wife, a beautiful ball, and glass slippers. But this story has so much more: a very real and emotional romance, steamy sex, an action-packed climax, and a clever, unexpected, but incredibly satisfying happily-ever-after.

“Love is it’s own cruel magic,” he said. “Blessing for some, curse for others. Magic wouldn’t be magic if we knew why it worked.”

The little man clapped his hands, and she felt her feet warming. Beneath the many layers of skirts, she saw the high-heeled slippers: fine as winter’s frost on glass, but hard as crystal. “Made of my own tears?” she said. “Love is a cruel magic, indeed.”

My Review:

My Rating: 5 Stars

“She had two things he wanted very badly; her ability to save his family’s failing cattle ranch and a promise of a night he’d remember for years. Taking one would mean giving the other up, because he couldn’t have both. This wasn’t the type of a woman a man could fuck and then work with as if nothing had happened.”

SUPER HOT COWBOY ALERT! I loved this book. The story is engaging, the characters are great, and the sex is AMAZING.

From the moment they meet, sparks fly between Matt and Carolina. Susan Arden expertly creates incredible sexual tension that builds and builds until the characters (and the reader!) can barely stand it. When they finally give in, the sex is explosive and incredibly well-written. Some of the scenes literally took my breath away.

Matt is a fantastic hero: a handsome, chiseled, intelligent and sexy cowboy. A modern “caveman” type, he desires to possess Carolina completely, and when he does…. just WOW. Carolina possesses both strength and vulnerability, traits that make her a relatable and likable female lead.

“He took without asking, tearing down every wall she’d erected. The kiss continued on a path of destruction, her world fighting against his. Only when she whimpered and slumped against him, did he relinquish his power, turn raw greed into tenderness, and transform fire in soothing heat. He lifted her into his arms. “Tonight, baby, you’re completely mine. By the time we’re finished, we won’t be two separate people.”

Overall, this is a fantastic read. I enjoyed the story and setting of the cattle ranch, the interesting plot, and most of all, the connection between these two characters. The evolution of their relationship is a (smokin’ hot!) delight to read, and the HEA an added bonus 🙂

“This was madness. Matt drove her to the brink with his words and his body and she didn’t fight being out of control. This was more than a simple infatuation and girlhood flights of fancy. She didn’t need to think; it was in the absence of rational thought that he delivered her, into a place where she was free.”

Title: Plague Town

Author: Dana Fredsti

Publisher: Titan Books

Publication Date: April 3, 2012

My Rating : 5 Stars

About the Book:

Ashley was just trying to get through a tough day when the world turned upside down.

A terrifying virus appears, quickly becoming a pandemic that leaves its victims, not dead, but far worse. Attacked by zombies, Ashley discovers that she is a ‘Wild-Card’ — immune to the virus — and she is recruited to fight back and try to control the outbreak.

It’s Buffy meets the Walking Dead in a rapid-fire zombie adventure!

My Review:

I want to be Ashley Parker when I grow up!

This action-packed zombie adventure features Ashley Parker: a cool, sexy, bad-ass zombie fighting heroine. Her inner and outer strength, quirky sense of humor, and relatable vulnerability make Ashley one of my favorite female leads of all time. Put her in the midst of the motley crew of immune “Wild Cards” that are her supporting cast and the result is a brilliant group of characters.
As they fight to contain a budding zombie outbreak, our characters face gory battles with rotting zombies and struggle to come to terms with the fact that their lives are forever changed. Despite the dramatic horror aspects of the book, Fredsti manages an undertone tinged with humor. All of this, with a touch of romance and an epic climactic battle make this a fantastically addictive first book in the series.

Title: Plague Nation

Author: Dana Fredsti

Publisher: Titan Books

Publication Date: April 9, 2013

My Rating: 5 Stars

About the Book:

Sequel to the thrilling zombie novel PLAGUE TOWN.

The undead have been defeated in Redwood Grove, CA, but reports of similar outbreaks are coming in. What seemed to be an isolated event is turning into a pandemic.  The last thing Ashley Parker wanted when she went to college was to join the military, but she is one of a select few who are immune to the virus. Gifted with enhanced speed, strength, and senses, she’s recruited by a shadowy international organization that’s existed for centuries, its sole purpose to combat the zombie threat.

Dark secrets begin to emerge, and when an unknown enemy strikes, Ashley and the other zombie hunters—known as “wild cards”—embark on a desperate mission to reach San Francisco. If they fail, the plague will sweep the nation unchecked. And the person she cares for most may die. Or worse.

My Review:

What?! It’s done?! But… What about…?!

The second book in the Ashley Parker series could be read as a stand-alone, but the first book is too good to miss!

As a zombie outbreak worsens and threatens the entire country, Ashley and a band of misfit “Wild Cards” must face more zombie mayhem in this gory, action-packed and entertaining thrill-ride. As the situation becomes dire, the mood becomes darker and bleaker. Even Ash’s constant, witty pop-culture references have a dark tinge. As we become more attached to the characters, their mortality is brought to the forefront, and we must watch sadly as their strength and bravado deteriorates, along with the civilized world.

Questions are answered but more are raised and a dramatic cliffhanger left me desperate for more of this clever and addicting horror series.

About the Book:

Shelly Laurent escapes her life as a high-class escort, but against her better judgment she takes the scared young Ella with her. Framed for murder by her pimp and his dirty cops in retaliation, Shelly turns to the one man who could be her salvation: Detective Luke Cameron. She doesn’t know if she can trust him or if he’s just a mirage, but it’s time for her to take a stand. Just one shot, make it count, she’ll fight Ella’s demons—and face her own.

Shelly throws light on the shadows of Chicago’s underworld, challenging everything she knew and the man she’s come to love. Together, a prostitute and a cop fight for truth stronger than secrets, hope deeper than deception, and a bond more enduring than betrayal.

“Shh,” I murmured, stroking his back.

 “Shelly, goddammit.”

But his protests fell away as I pressed my breasts to his arm and my tongue to his ear. His harsh inhalation sounded broken, shattered, or maybe that was me.

I tasted salt and man, earth and spring. Slow licks alongside his lobe and upward, more suggestive than sensation, but for a man like this, anticipation would be everything. Or so I had imagined, all the times I had dreamed of it.

A small sound escaped him, somewhere between a grunt and groan. I took it as encouragement and smoothed my hands along the hard planes of his shoulders, his chest. Not anywhere near the bulge in his jeans, because this wasn’t about pleasure—it was about wanting.

Anything to get closer, I let my knees slide apart around his side, the faint heat of his body a shock to my core. His hands clenched and opened on his knees, and again, the muscles rippled beneath his darkly tanned skin. Was he restraining himself from touching me or pushing me off?

“Baby, no,” he groaned, letting his head fall back onto my shoulder.

No, I would never deserve to have him as more than a sex partner. And he had never fucked me, though I knew he wanted to. Every time he saw me, his eyes would darken and my stomach would bottom out, but we’d never touch. But maybe for one brief inconvenient moment, while the door was open and the young woman beyond it needed help, we could pretend. Maybe it could be enough.
I shut my eyes tightly and pressed a kiss to his temple. Pretend, just pretend. I would give him the sex he had craved, and in return, he’d give me memories. It would be a payment, just the same.

“You want this,” I whispered.

He shuddered in my arms; it was like hugging a wild animal, one who could just as easily maul me as cuddle.

“Can I touch you?” he whispered. “Please.”

It unraveled me, that plea. As if he understood that a little bit of my soul slipped away every time someone touched me. As if he would cherish the part I gave him.

I scrambled away from him as if burned, breathing hard. No.

No one understood, which was exactly the way I liked it. I ran a shaking hand over my face to smooth away the panic.

Sure, he knew the score better than most people. He had worked the beat as a patrol cop and then as a detective. Life as a high-priced escort wasn’t glamorous; it was sweat and blood sprinkled with glitter. But he didn’t know the full extent, and I prayed he never would. Henri didn’t sell bodies; he gutted them.

I panted against the headboard, unable to walk away but unwilling to beg. Luke remained carved in stone where I’d left him sitting on the edge of the bed. The air pulsed with doubt and longing—with sex.

“I want it to be real between us.” He spoke low and hoarse.

A quiet sound escaped me. Every caress, every pinch. Every slur ever spoken. “It’s always real. That’s the problem, Luke. It’s always too damn real.”

He hung his head, and I thought for a moment I heard him say I know, but the moment slipped away, the sweet intimacy sailed away like clouds on the horizon—never really mine.

My Review:

My Rating: 5 Stars

Dark, gritty, seductive, and action-packed, Selling Out is a fantastic follow-up to Giving it Up. Though the stories are told in a similar style, this one is definitely my favorite. I relished the opportunity to spend more time with Allie, Colin, Philip, and especially Shelly.

From it’s first moments, the book kept me glued to the pages. As the author peels away Shelley’s layers, giving the reader more insight in to who she is, she peels away layers of plot, revealing twists, turns and surprises. We get to know the characters as well as the seedy Chicago underworld, and just when everything seems too dark, too impossible, there is a pin-point of light. But nothing in Shelly’s world is simple…

For me, the best part of the book is Shelly’s character; I adore her. She is so incredibly broken, damaged, and dark, but for whatever reason, she keeps fighting for herself, for others, and for redemption. She is complex, subversive, intelligent, and beautiful. I am drawn to her, like the people around her, especially Luke. I was taken by their electric connection, and the mystery surrounding Luke.

I enjoyed this book immensely. The story, the characters, the emotion and the author’s perspective left me breathless and wrung-out. I was completely sucked in and though I was satisfied by the ending, I was disappointed when it was over.

About the Book:

Determined to waste no time, Jane searches for a shortcut and discovers the 1Night Stand dating service. A single night with geologist Dr. Lukas Gerard, and she can go home and get on with her fascinating study of world weather trends. The only question is whether to have sex with him…after all, it would be her first, and maybe only, time.

Lukas’s own field of study has shown him some alarming trends. He believes a killer earthquake may rattle the western half of the United States in the near future. In preparation, he converts an abandoned gold mine to a secret bunker, loaded with supplies and all the comforts of home. Only thing he needs now is company in his hideaway. Unsure how to find the right companion, he turns to 1Night Stand, but neither he nor Jane are prepared for the sudden impact of one of Madame Eve’s connections.

One night teaches them there is more to life than science…for both of them.

My Review:

A ruggedly sexy, brilliantly intelligent, disaster prepping hero? Ummmm, YES PLEASE!

I love this story. It’s a quick read, and very well-written. I really appreciated the writing style: the story flowed so smoothly. The romance between the two main characters is sensual, sexy, and ultimately, hopeful. The author creates a sizzling chemistry in a short amount of time. Lukas is the exact right combination of protective strength and tenderness.

For me, a highlight of this story is the underground bunker that the bulk of the story takes place in. The author’s creation of this incredibly beautiful, and very useful, safe place is highly imaginative. That space and the irresistible Dr. Lukas Gerard have me wishing for the apocalypse!

“The man who stared down at her was not the urbane professor who had picked her up. Rather a god, a man of unlimited strength who could carry her through disasters and fears, who had built a fortress of safety and beauty inside the belly of the earth herself.

When he reached for her, she went to him, and put herself in his hands. She was living, for the first time.”

Book Review: INIQUITOUS SOLACE by Max and Penelope Jones

Iniquitous solace

Title: Iniquitous Solace

Authors: Max and Penelope Jones

Publisher: Cherish Desire

Release Date: January 30, 2013

My Rating: 5 Stars

Iniquitous Solace’ is the tale of two lovelorn strangers. Chance has placed them in each other’s path, and their encounter is captured through powerful erotic poetry. Through the eyes of our poets, we follow them on an emotional journey through life. As we delve deep into their souls, we share their joys and heartbreaks, their passions and lusts. The poetry is written in the raunchy style you’ve come to love from these writers, and now all they ask is you take the plunge, and indulge in ‘Iniquitous Solace’ – their ‘Rhythmic Words of Lust and Love.’

My Review:

Here’s the deal: I rarely (okay, pretty much never) read poetry. But, this particular book looked interesting so I thought I’d give it a try. I am so glad that I did: I hate to think that I would have missed out.

I read the book all the way through, quickly, and then immediately read it again. I wanted, no needed, to continue the experience. It is beautiful, dark, and deliciously sexy. Told in a back and forth between the two characters, the story is wonderfully realized through emotionally raw, captivating, and often delightfully kinky poems. Two people with dark pasts and deep-seated fears find fulfillment and comfort in their mutual lust, love, and understanding. As much as I enjoyed their sensual journey as whole, each poem is wonderful in its own right.

This book will go in the ever-growing pile of books that I love and will pick up again and again, a pleasure to read and destined to become a great friend.

“Over under, atop of me and more

You know just how to make me mewl and turn me into your whore

You love me, you need me, you want me too

Always there to push, and to guide me

I need to just wait for your cue

Our lives become one, I begin where you end

Because of you I transcend

I love you today, tomorrow, forever

We will endeavor

Book Review: FINDING MERCY (A Prepper Romance) by D.L. Jackson

finding mercy

Title: Finding Mercy (A Prepper Romance)

Author: D.L. Jackson

Publisher: Decadent Publishing

Release Date: December 22, 2012

My Rating: 5 Stars

You’ll die in three minutes without oxygen, three hours without shelter, three days without water and three weeks without food. But could you live a lifetime with a broken heart?

Mercy Evans has come to Evans Point hoping to collect herself and find a way to resurrect her career as an anchorwoman for Cheyenne’s news station. Sergeant Justin Redway has come to Evans Point to try to forget his past and survive all he’s done.

One is a battle-damaged veteran, the other a desperate woman who will go to any extreme to get his story. When their worlds collide, sparks fly and old wounds open. As the chasm between the fated lovers widens, it might be too big to cross.

One town, two lovers, and a second chance at finding mercy.

My Review:

I love this book! *Note: I have a slight obsession with “Prepping” and combine that with a sexy romance, and I’m one happy girl 🙂

Set among the backdrop of a beautiful and remote Wyoming town, this romance has so many intriguing elements: a war hero, a troubled newscaster, and a community of Doomsday preppers.

At the heart of the story is Justin and Mercy’s romance. Their undeniable chemistry leads them to a no-strings-attached relationship; though they quickly realize they mean much more to each other. Their story of sacrifice, love, and redemption is multi-layered, emotional and well-written. Each incredibly strong in their own way, Justin and Mercy must make difficult choices and sacrifices in order to be together, find peace, and become who they truly want to be.

The intriguing subplot of potential Doomsday, heart-pounding action, and Mercy and Justin’s spicy sexual attraction and ultimately sweet romance combine to make this a creative and throughly enjoyable read.

Everyone should have something to rebel against.

Crank Wilson left his South Boston home at sixteen to start a punk band and burn out his rage at the world. Six years later, he’s still at odds with his father, a Boston cop, and doesn’t ever speak to his mother. The only relationship that really matters is with his younger brother, but watching out for Sean can be a full-time job. The one thing Crank wants in life is to be left the hell alone to write his music and drive his band to success.

Julia Thompson left a secret behind in Beijing that exploded into scandal in Washington, DC, threatening her father’s career and dominating her family’s life. Now, in her senior year at Harvard, she’s haunted by a voice from her past and refuses to ever lose control of her emotions again, especially when it comes to a guy.

When Julia and Crank meet at an anti-war protest in Washington in the fall of 2002, the connection between them is so powerful it threatens to tear everything apart.

 My Review:

Brilliant, heart-wrenching, and completely captivating, A Song for Julia is a poignant tale of love, family, healing and redemption.

Julia and Crank each have their own interesting story to tell, but put them together and it is the perfect storm. Intrigue, intense emotion, and undeniable chemistry define this unlikely couple. They are both relatable, multi-dimensional characters, complete with strengths, flaws, difficult pasts, and hopeful futures. The author uses both characters to narrate the story, transitioning seamlessly from one perspective to the other: quite a task when they each possess a completely unique voice.  Theirs is not an easy relationship: it is difficult, messy, and beautiful.

Crank and Julia’s story is not the only highlight of the book. They have lives outside their relationship. These sub-plots and the secondary cast of characters make the story rich and vibrant; the author brings to life the nuances of complicated families and friendships. These relationships are an integral part of the characters, adding another element to this already compelling story.

The truth is, I have trouble finding the words to properly describe how I feel about this book. I absolutely love it. It is why I read books. I was completely overcome by the intense emotion and left tearful and breathless at the conclusion. In Crank and Julia’s story, the author reminds us that sometimes an unlikely person becomes the most important person, the one who changes everything, the reason we are able to finally become who we are meant to be.

“ ‘I don’t want to be to be one of your conquests. I don’t want to be another fucking girl getting screwed- someone your bandmates say was a horrible scene the next morning.’

‘I like it when you say ‘fucking’.’

I closed my eyes. ‘You’re impossible.’

 ‘That’s why you love me.’

‘I do not love you. I don’t even like you.’

‘You will,’ he said, his voice low and luscious. I could feel the vibration of that voice from my ears all the way down to my feet.

‘Maybe,’ I whispered. ‘But not tonight.’ “
