Title: Marooned with the Millionaire

Author: Sandra Bunino

Publisher: Evernight Publishing

Release Date: April 9, 2013

Genre: Erotic Romance

My Rating: 5 Stars

About the Book:

“The chemistry between Stephanie and Jason is electric, white hot, and sensual. This story definitely delivers on all counts of romance and erotica.” ~ Liz, Fictional Candy

A fierce Miami storm bring sexy strangers together at The Hotel Del Santos for a night of desire.

Stephanie, still reeling from a failed marriage, needs a break from the past. Shying away from the convention center crowds while on a business trip, she finds solace tucked away in a secluded hotel on South Beach.

Jason, a wealthy Seattle builder, has the worst luck with love. He swears he will never allow another woman to get under his skin, until the clicking of a pair of sexy stilettos across the hotel lobby floor attracts his attention.

Cut off from the outside world, the lives of these two strangers collide and burn with desire when a storm strands them together. Neither wants anything more than a glorious one-night stand.

Their chemistry is undeniable and propels them to second meeting in Sin City. However, Stephanie soon learns she has more reason to be wary of her mysterious lover than a broken heart.

Previously published as Marooned in Miami and Lusted in Las Vegas. The novellas were combined and enhanced for Evernight Publishing.

My Review:

Decadent, escapist, beautifully romantic, and achingly sexy; a reading vacation that made me reluctant to go home.

From their very first meeting there is a sizzling and undeniable chemistry between Jason and Stephanie. They are a couple you root for, complementing each other so well, and each offering the other a chance to heal from damaging past relationships. Ghosts from their respective pasts crop up and threaten the budding romance, adding just enough drama and intrigue to keep the story interesting.

Bunino has an ability to create stunning backdrops to her stories, and this is no exception. From Miami to Vegas, she crafts richly opulent hotels and villas, the perfect settings for romance and always well-written and super-steamy erotica.

Complete with a satisfying happily ever after, this is a fabulous, sexy, and unforgettable book vacation.

“‘Stef, I know that you don’t do things like this. I’ll leave right now. Just say the word. But I assure you that is you want to continue down this path tonight, you will not regret it. Never for a moment will you regret it.’

Stephanie considered her options. Sure she could ask him to leave now, but the floodgates of a long-stifled passion were just opened, and she needed more, so much more. She was under the magic spell of Jason Royce.”

Book Tour and #Review: MAFIA SECRET by Angie Derek

Welcome to the Mafia Secret Book Tour! Read an excerpt from the book as well as my review!

About the Book:

Lessa Noelle grew up never knowing she was the illegitimate daughter of a mafia king pin. After his murder, she finds herself a surprise heiress immersed in the dangerous world of organized crime with only the guidance of Marco Santo her father’s second in command to help her.

Marco searches for her father’s killer and tries to keep the realities of his life from touching her. An uneasy attraction blossoms between the two. An already dangerous situation turns volatile when a killer turns his attention to Lessa.

He held a white envelope against the glass and spoke again. “I have a letter from your father.”

She relaxed a smidge. He had the wrong person. Her father had died when she was six. But she couldn’t completely relax. He was still a stranger, and after this afternoon . . . . Whoever had tried to run her over still hadn’t been caught. And maybe she’d heard him wrong. Her car was running and the windows were shut.

She took her left hand off the steering wheel and cracked her window a quarter of an inch so she could hear him better. “I’m sorry, what did you say?”

“I have a letter from your father.”

“I think you have the wrong person.”

“Alessandra Noelle?”

Lessa hesitated, her right hand tightening on the steering wheel. “Yes.”

“You’re the correct person.” His voice was low and soothing.

But it had the opposite effect on her nerves. She shook her head. “I can’t be. My father died nearly twenty years ago.”

He hesitated this time and she focused on his face. The security light cast him in harsh shadows. He wore a dress shirt with the sleeves rolled up and a tie. No suit jacket. Probably a concession to the heat. His dark hair was brushed back off his face and his eyes appeared as dark in the night.

His lips firmed into a frown before he spoke again. “No, he didn’t. He died two days ago.”

My Review:

My Rating: 4 Stars

With it’s nearly non-stop action, gritty mafia plot line, twists and turns, and steamy romance, Mafia Secret grabbed me from the first page.

When Lessa learns that she is the illegitimate child of a recent murdered patriarch of a powerful crime family, her life, and the family’s life is thrown into turmoil. Loyalties are tested and so is Lessa’s mettle as she begins to come to terms with her new life, with the help of sexy Marc, her guard and an upper-level player in the family.

The plot has everything expected from one centering around a mob family, opulent wealth, questionable business dealings, action, and intrigue. What I enjoyed in particular about this story is the family dynamic. The author provides a colorful cast of characters in the Tazio family. The are real, well developed characters that add an interesting dynamic to the story.

At the center of the story is the undeniable chemistry between Lessa and Marc.  He struggles to balance his loyalty to the family, his search for the murderer of Lessa’s father, and his growing attraction for the beautiful blonde cheerleader. He learns that his need to protect her goes beyond family duty and fortunately she feels the connection as well. The result is steamy sex and a satisfying romance. Their romance is a welcome addition to this multi-layered and exciting story, complete with a pulse-pounding climax and a happily ever after.

“As he picked her up and carried her to the bed, she raised her arms and cupped his face with her hands. Drawing him closer, she captured his lips with hers. He returned her kiss, gently at first and then with increasing passion. Tomorrow was soon enough to worry about what came next. For tonight, there was nowhere she’d rather be.”

Book Tour, #Review, and #Giveaway: EMMA: THE WILD AND WANTON EDITION by Micah Persell

May 3, 2013 Book Review, Book Tour, Historical Romance, Past Giveaways 5

Today is the *Unofficial* Historical Fiction Day here at Tattooed Book Review. I have reviews and excerpts from two very different historical romances, each great reads in their own way. Scroll down to the previous post for the second book…Enjoy 🙂

 Review Banner

Welcome to the Emma: The Wild and Wanton Edition Book Tour! Read on for my review of this sexy re-write of a classic, an excerpt from the book, and a wonderful giveaway.

About the Book:

Emma Woodhouse and Mr. Knightley won the literary world’s heart 200 years ago when Jane Austen first penned the story of their friendship-turned-love.  Emma is the young, rich, beautiful heroine with too much time on her hands and an overactive imagination; Mr. Knightley is her long-suffering friend who is always trying to steer her in the right direction.

Their love story is one of deep, dedicated affection blooming into passion.  But what about all of that sexual tension that crackles in the subtext?  In this Wild and Wanton edition of Austen’s classic, Emma and Mr. Knightley burn up the pages as they give in to their baser natures.  Discover the sexy scenes that readers of Emma have been imagining between Austen’s lines since 1815.

My Review:

My Rating: 4 Stars

I am definitely a fan of books that are rewrites of classics, especially when the book is upgraded to a sexier version! This “wild and wanton” rewrite of Jane Austen’s Emma did not disappoint.

I particularly enjoyed that the original text was not changed completely, Persell uses Austen’s original text and adds to it. The transitions are seamless, the writing styles matched extremely well. I like to think that Austen (after getting over a bit of shock) would have welcomed these spicy, but tasteful, additions to her story. I know that I certainly did 🙂

“His hands came up to wrap around her wrists, and he pressed her hands more firmly  against his skin. “Your fingers burn me,” he whispered briefly before pressing another more desperate kiss to her mouth. “Want to feel more of your skin,” he breathed against her lips. And the her shift was gone-lifted up over her head and fluttering to the floor.”

*I received a complimentary copy of the book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

She was his own Emma, by hand and word.

He made a noise that seemed to emanate from deep within his chest, and the light kisses he had been gifting her with continued to travel up from her wrist to her inner forearm, to the hallow of her elbow at which point she completely forgot how to breathe.

He began to talk again, his breath caressing her skin as completely as his lips had seconds ago.  “You have made me a very happy man, my Emma.”  He punctuated the endearment with another kiss to her upper arm.  “I had dared not to hope—” a kiss to her cloth-covered shoulder “—dared not to dream.”

His words trailed off as he pressed an open-mouth kiss to her collarbone.  She felt the sweep of something velvety and wet, and her body jolted as she realised it was his tongue.  She heard herself make a noise, and heard him echo it.

“I am forgetting myself, dearest,” he said hoarsely into the patch of damp skin.  “Remind me,” he begged.  “Remind me of how I should behave.”

Her Mr. Knightley, Emma thought with exultation, always so concerned with how one should behave.  Emma was entirely uninterested in proper behaviour at this moment. “Not yet,” she whispered into his hair, the scent of the garden and sunshine greeting her as she rested her cheek against his head.  “Please not yet.”

He groaned and his kisses moved to the hallow of her throat.  “Your wish, my lady.”

Book Tour and #Review: A NOTE OF SCANDAL by Nicky Penttilla

May 3, 2013 Book Review, Book Tour, Historical Romance 1

Welcome to the A Note of Scandal Book Tour! Today I have my review and an excerpt from this lovely historical romance.

About the Book:

What’s the harm in a little white lie?

Especially when it could carry so much good: a new life for a wounded soldier, catharsis after long years of war—and an opportunity for lady composer Olivia Delancey to finally hear her music played in public.

Newspaper publisher Will Marsh refuses to compound the sins of his father’s generation by taking money to print propaganda. But with the end of the wars in France and America, he needs something new to drive Londoners to grab his paper first. Why not publish the score of the “Tune That Took Waterloo,” by a wounded vet, no less?

As Olivia struggles to keep her secrets from this unsuitably alluring publisher, and Will fights to find the truth without losing his hold on this bright-eyed angel who has descended into his life, both discover another sort of truth.

Being the talk of London can be bad—or very, very good.

Interesting elements:

The newspaper-publishing setting is very rare in regencies but fascinating to the author, a former newspaperwoman.

Music plays a big role: Olivia plays pianoforte and Spanish-style guitar; there are three very different concerts in the story.

Water also is big: the hero falls in the sound and nearly drowns; the heroine surprises the hero during a steamy bath.

Olivia lies to help a wounded veteran and he is a strong secondary character. Services and conditions for war veterans were poor at this time.

My Review:

My Rating: 4 Stars

A lovely, thoughtful, and entertaining regency romance.

There’s just something I love about a historical romance of this type. It’s sweet, there is very little sex and it’s not graphic at all. However, I always enjoy being reminded of a bygone era, in which simply flashing a bit of ankle was incredibly sexy. When a touch, caress, or kiss, or a single lady being in a man’s residence without a chaperone was dangerously scandalous. Somehow, it offers a bit of perspective and balance to what our world is like now. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE steamy, graphic, kinky sex scenes, but I certainly appreciate the qualities in this type of romance. Even it the confines of modesty, the author still creates a palpable heat, sensuality, and chemistry between Livvie and Will, and the progression of their relationship was definitely one I enjoyed.

In addition to the romance, the book highlights social issues of the time, including women’s rights, and the plight of military veterans returning from war. Not only is the book romantic, but thought-provoking as well.

Penttilla’s writing has a lyrical quality that is perfect for a romance set in this time period and is a lovely compliment to the “musical” undertones of the plot. This is a great read, I would recommend it to all romance fans and especially fans of historical  romance.

“First Kiss”

“I might tell you one of my secrets.” She gave him an oddly timid smile, as if she were unsure of her allure.

“A false promise. You have no secrets from me.”

“Not with that expressive mouth. And those eyes.” He stroked her chin. “And that jaw line.”

She leaned into his touch. “Can you be sure?”

“As sure as I am of anything. I knew you were hopping mad when you came in here, and it was not all about me.”

“True.” She lifted her head away, just a fraction, from his hand. “But you didn’t seem to know you’d stung me in Mr. Swizzlewit’s office.”

“I did know. But what you may not have known was that our solicitor had given me the worst of news, and I was angry with the world and ready to lash out. Unfortunately for you, and for me.”

“For you?”

“Most assuredly. For I knew it meant that later I would have to humble myself abjectly and plead for forgiveness.”

“You did not need to.”

“I did. You see, Miss Olivia Delancey, your good opinion means much to me, it turns out. I did not feel right after you left, not until I saw you walk through my door.”

“Such flattery.”

He shrugged. “Truth. We don’t go much in for lying here.”

It was her turn to put her hand over her heart. “I thank you for your kind apology. It is accepted. Now may I do something for you?”

He could imagine many things she could do. Likely none of them were what she was thinking of. “What?”

“Come to Plymouth. I know the town well, and can guide you. We might even arrange to row out and meet the ship in harbor. A first.”

“A scoop.”

“Meet me at our house at Manor Gardens above Union Street. I’ll get you your story.”

How could he say no? “Deal. And a finder’s fee.” He took her jaw in his hand again, thumb over her cheekbone, and pulled her gently toward him. He brushed his lips against hers. The barest whisper of a touch, but it pushed all the thunderclouds from his mind, making way for the sweet warmth of spring sun.

Then she pressed back, and the sun grew hotter. His hips moved of their own accord closer to hers, possessive. Her hand on his chest, over his heart, seared him, marking him as hers.

Footsteps sounded in the hallway, and they pulled away. Her gaze was softly intent, as if she were trying to read his mind. He prayed she could not.

Book Tour and #Review: FINDING TRUST by Natalie Gayle

April 29, 2013 Book Review, Book Tour, Romantic Suspense 0

Welcome to the Finding Trust Book Tour! Read my review of this new Romantic Suspense…

About the Book:

Finding Trust – Book 1: Centre Games Series (Brayden and Rihanna)

He’s hot, sexy, and leads a double life. Sometimes in the limelight, mostly in the shadows. Brayden James holds fast to a secret that’s more than his to share. She’s a singularly focused veterinarian out for a rare night of fun with friends, at a New Year’s Eve rock concert. Going home with the lead guitarist was furthest thing from Rihanna Mason’s mind when the night began. When Rihanna inadvertently becomes the target of a deadly terrorist plot using the Hendra virus as a biological weapon, Brayden is forced to reveal his other life. His job is to keep her safe and together they must stop the terrorists before it’s too late. But what happens when she becomes more to him than just the assignment? Will the secret he cannot disclose ultimately prove too much for Rihanna’s fragile trust in relationships? Or will he finally break through the double brick walls around her heart, where every other man has failed?

My Review:

My Rating: 4 Stars

A very enjoyable romantic suspense that has action, intrigue, heat, and an interesting paranormal twist, Finding Trust is a solid series debut.

Because I’m an equine professional myself, I personally found the story very compelling, as it centers around a young, female equine veterinarian. The author takes the very real situation of the deadly Hendra virus and expands it into an exciting bioterrorism plot, complete with a secret team of agents that have some extra “special” qualities to fight a potential global disaster. Though the book reads a little slow in the very beginning, once the story gets rolling it is sexy, action-packed, and nearly impossible to put down.

Gayle takes the time allow Rihanna and Brayden, our lead couple, to establish a strong chemistry and connection. They build on an initial attraction until it boils over into some steamy sex, made super hot by the fact that the author has painted an absolutely gorgeous picture of Brayden in the reader’s mind. Protective, extra strong, sexy, and confident work for me 🙂 I like Rhianna’s character very much: no-nonense, tough with just enough vulnerability, and refuses to play the damsel in distress card. The author has also given this well-matched couple a great supporting cast that we hopefully get to know better in future books in the series.

Overall, this is an entertaining read with an intriguing plot and very good group of characters. The story ends on a cliffhanger, leaving the door open for more books in a very promising series.

About the Author:

I recently discovered those school vocational assessments are really interesting and probably correct! Who would have thought, hey? You see, I clearly remember taking one of those in Year 11 (for my US friends, I think that equates to junior year in high school). Anyway, semantics. Well, the results came back indicating that I should pursue a career in writing and something else. What that something else was I can’t remember but the writing thing stuck in my mind. Sure, I’d always liked English and had already developed a ravenous appetite for romance novels by the age of sixteen—but who becomes a writer straight out of school? So to cut a long story short, I went to Uni and studied Business and ended up managing large-scale IT projects shortly after. I can’t complain: it’s been a great career. I’ve done some awesome projects and met some incredible people and I won’t be giving it up anytime soon. Anyway, I’ve messed around with a couple of “secret” novels over the years and I finally decided to get serious and finish one. Hence “Finding Trust” came about. And about twenty years later, I’ve finally proved a vocational assessment correct, because I love writing! As to some other stuff about me: I live on the Gold Coast, Australia. I love spending time with my family and friends. When I’m not sitting behind a screen playing with IT or writing, you might find me down the beach playing in the waves on a Jet Ski or a bogey board (both are uber cool). When the weather turns a bit cooler (doesn’t really happen on the Gold Coast), we like to head for the snow. I’ve discovered I have two kids who are kamikaze skiers—they must take after their father. He’s always at me to “release the handbrake.” Apparently I’d ski so much better. I call it a healthy understanding of self-preservation and gravity! I like to think I can fit in a few workouts and martial arts classes each week. This tends to be a figment of my imagination more than reality, unfortunately. I am trying to remedy this, but those damn characters just keep demanding to have their stories told and, well, there’s always another good book to read! I hope you enjoy mine. Please drop me a line. I’m active on Facebook, Twitter, and via email I’d love to know what you think of my books and well, let’s be truthful—I love talking about books, whether they’re mine or someone else’s. Fiction is just so much more fun than reality!!! Happy Reading.

About the Book:

When captured by the Nazis, Sarah finds herself in a concentration camp that not only brings her closer to death…but closer to love.

Sarah Brenner, a young Jewish woman, is terrified when she finds herself in the heat of a railcar bound for a work camp in Nazi Germany. For years she, along with her mother and sister, had hidden from the SS, but no one could hide forever. Her hatred for those who have enslaved them is ever-growing, especially when they arrive and she encounters the shockingly handsome Nazi doctor who can’t seem to keep his eyes—or hands—off her.

Aurel Rothstein is not your everyday concentration camp physician. The endless prisoners and lack of care he’s allowed to give have made him numb to the work he so coveted. It isn’t until he comes face to face with a beautiful prisoner that his heart becomes involved with his job—a forbidden and fatal move to any Nazi.

When a vile soldier takes direct interest in Sarah, she will be forced to make a choice that will change her life forever: ignore the pull toward the handsome doctor or give in to the forbidden passion he awakens with only a look. Either way they both risk everything…

My Review:

My Rating: 4 Stars

In Forbidden Angel, Megan D. Martin tackles an incredibly horrific and heart-wrenching subject: the Jewish Holocaust. However, this story reminds us that even in times of great tragedy and turmoil great love can still exist against all odds.

I will admit that this was at times a difficult book to read:because it portrays real situations. I will not rehash the horrors, but getting through some parts was quite harrowing and extremely emotional.

What kept me reading was the characters: people that were living in inhuman conditions, struggling to maintain some semblance of strength and to simply survive each horrible day. The author brings Sarah and Aurel together, obviously the unlikeliest of couples. She manages to create heat, connection, and chemistry in the midst of such terror and the danger their relationship creates for them. They are complex characters, each brave and but weak in their own way, struggling to come to terms with their feelings about each other and their own hopeless situations. The relationship brings light, warmth, and bit of hope to a story filled with unspeakable horrors. In a dramatic and beautiful climax, it becomes obvious that the perceived rights and wrongs of their relationship are not really all that important, when life and death are the stakes.

“He crossed the space that separated them and wrapped his arms around her as gently as he could. He had no excuse for his actions. There was nothing he could say to make it better. The cold, hard truth was that they were both here, and the only reason for this was because of the circumstances they were in. He couldn’t bring himself to regret meeting her. Something seemed so right about her in his arms. They fit together, almost like it was meant to be.”

About the Book:

Title: The Iron Locket (The Risen King #1)

Author: Samantha Warren

Genre: Fantasy Romance

Release Date: April 18, 2013

She was raised to hunt faeries. He was raised from the dead.

Aiofe Callaghan comes from a long line of faery hunters. Hired by one of the faery queens, they protect the human world from chaos and destruction. But when Aiofe stumbles through an open door into the land of Faery, she discovers the job isn’t as simple as it seems, nor is she.

Arthur Pendragon spent centuries in blissful nothingness, until the day the four queens banded together to raise him from the dead. Along with his twelve most talented knights, he leads the warring armies of Faery against the greatest enemy they have ever known: one of their own.

Can they overcome their differences to confront the greatest challenges either of them have ever faced?

My Review:

My Rating: 4 Stars

Arthur straightened himself and glanced back toward the army gathered outside. ‘Never in all my years as king would I have thought that one day I would be commanding elves and dragons. Myths and fairy tales come to life.'”

Samantha Warren has succeeded in weaving multiple times and places, legends and fairy tales, into a tightly woven and beautiful tapestry of a story.

For such an incredibly multi-faceted story, the book flows easily. It contains so many elements: in 2012 Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table have been resurrected, the kingdom of Faery is at war, and a faery hunter of the human realm is just discovering her complicated and royal lineage. It would seem impossible for all of these plot lines to come together as one, but they do just that.

Among the epic, exciting, and well- described battles and jostling for control of the Faery realm, a romance blossoms between two outsiders, from different times and places, but with an undeniable chemistry: King Arthur (yes, that King Arthur) has found his romantic counterpart in Aiofe, a half-human faery hunter and descendent of faery royalty. Arthur is as you would expect him, chivalrous and strong, a true Knight. Aiofe is a great female lead, strong and tough, with a sense of humor and ready to find love. Arthur and Aiofe’s story is my favorite part of the book, and I look forward to seeing it develop in future installments of the series.

“Her cheeks flushed as she looked up, meeting his clear blue eyes. He was so handsome, so amazing. He would die for her, she could feel it deep in her soul. This was the man she could trust completely with her mind, body, and soul.”

This book does as the first book in a series should, it introduces the reader to important players, solves some initial mysteries, provides it’s own intense action and intrigue and sets the stage for what promises to be an epic series. It finishes on a cliffhanger and I am eagerly awaiting more of this story!

About the Book:

Jed Gentry is doing just fine, thank you very much, running his tattoo studio in Austin, Texas. So what if people think he’s a bit on the surly side? He’s been burned by his ex who sticks around to torture him and he lives with a family heartache that he’d rather not talk about. But he’s got a thriving business, his dream car, and good friends. Not much to complicate things. At least, not until she walked in…
Kyle O’Neill has had it with being the sheltered daddy’s girl at the family accounting firm and is ready to spread her wings and fly on her own for the first time. Unfortunately, it seems she’s about to fall flat on her face when her first and only client is – gulp — a tattoo artist! Her country club upbringing certainly hasn’t prepared her for this place or the sizzling attraction her traitorous body feels for the grumpy owner.
But there is a Divine conspiracy at work here pushing these two together. And they are hell bent on bucking the Heavenly plan all the way. Luckily, their angel is a true believer and pulls every trick he knows from under his halo to make this a match made in Heaven.
Who says God doesn’t have a sense of humor?

My Review:

A well-written, clever romance with a twist, Inked by an Angel reminds us that love exists in the unlikeliest places, and that we may need a “guardian angel” to help us find what was meant to be all along.

An unlikely romantic match for the conservative Kyle, Jed is the perfect tattoo artist “bad-boy”: all intimidating ink and piercings on the outside, sensitive artist on the inside. The author succeeds in showing his vulnerability, but never takes away the edge that makes him so sexy. The relationship slowly builds momentum, with plenty of up and down drama, to the point where I nearly cheered out loud when they finally arrived on the same page.

An easy read, with relatable characters, a touch of humor, and just enough heartache. I’m looking forward to reading more in this series!

“By the pricking of my thumbs, Something wicked this way comes.” -William Shakespeare, Macbeth

Druids, shifters, witches, and demons; romance, sex, intense action and the overwhelming power of true love. This third book in Rose’s trilogy is fast-paced and quite intense.

Rose and Derek must finally face the evil that threatens the future of their family, their magic, and their love. They each bravely face that darkness that lurks in each twist of the plot. If I could sum up the entire story in a single concept, it would be selfless courage. Rose, Derek, Blake and others are all willing to sacrifice themselves to save the one’s that they love. Theirs is a story of good overcoming evil, and love trumping greed.

The book is filled to the brim with action and epic magical battles. The plot is unique and unexpected, with more than a few twists and turns. At the heart of at all, in the midst of the turmoil, violent power-struggles, deceit, and uncertain futures, Derek and Rose’s love remains unwavering, guiding the story towards it’s long- awaited and epic climax.

“I didn’t have long. Instead of dwelling on my fear, I pictured Derek in my mind, imagining each of our days together, the way he held me, the way he made love to me, the smile on his face when I said something to make him laugh. I’d known love, the greatest, most epic of all loves. Not many people could ever say that. If the universe chose to rip it away from me after so short a time, I could only be grateful that I’d had any time at all.”

In the same vein of the other books in the series, Seduced by Power is beautifully written, poetic, and emotional. Kinrade uses the perspective of three different characters, and the story still moves along smoothly and seamlessly. Once again, this book has the added bonus of being visually beautiful, a joy to read. This book could be read as a stand-alone but is a richer and more complete experience when read as part of the series. (And the first two books are great reads as well!)

About the Book:

When a woman is the magnet for the wrong man, it takes a bad boy to break old habits.

Carolina Rodriguez is a large animal veterinarian on a mission to escape South Florida and her overprotective family. Willing to do just about anything, she accepts a job in Annona, Texas over the Internet from a family connection.

At her cousin’s wedding, she runs into Matt, a handsome Texan in the church parking lot. Matthew McLemore is more than gorgeous, he’s Carolina’s new boss, and needs her help to determine why his cattle keep dying. Matt’s instantaneous attraction to Carolina sorely tempts him to push the boundaries of their work contract, but a roll in the hay may prove too volatile to handle. Until she arrives on his ranch and is too hot to resist.

Carolina refuses to admit Matt’s raw sexuality is more than overpowering or that she’s the least bit tempted by this smooth-talking bad boy. But by the time the pathology lab reports comes back, they’ve explored every inch of each other. All of a sudden, this fiery affair is more than just a fling. And when a past flame threatens to overwhelm their new found romance, Matt must find a way to stake his claim to Carolina’s heart before it’s too late.

Warning: Contains a smoking mess of scorching love scenes.

Ice may be needed for blazing imaginations.

My Review:

My Rating: 5 Stars

“She had two things he wanted very badly; her ability to save his family’s failing cattle ranch and a promise of a night he’d remember for years. Taking one would mean giving the other up, because he couldn’t have both. This wasn’t the type of a woman a man could fuck and then work with as if nothing had happened.”

SUPER HOT COWBOY ALERT! I loved this book. The story is engaging, the characters are great, and the sex is AMAZING.

From the moment they meet, sparks fly between Matt and Carolina. Susan Arden expertly creates incredible sexual tension that builds and builds until the characters (and the reader!) can barely stand it. When they finally give in, the sex is explosive and incredibly well-written. Some of the scenes literally took my breath away.

Matt is a fantastic hero: a handsome, chiseled, intelligent and sexy cowboy. A modern “caveman” type, he desires to possess Carolina completely, and when he does…. just WOW. Carolina possesses both strength and vulnerability, traits that make her a relatable and likable female lead.

“He took without asking, tearing down every wall she’d erected. The kiss continued on a path of destruction, her world fighting against his. Only when she whimpered and slumped against him, did he relinquish his power, turn raw greed into tenderness, and transform fire in soothing heat. He lifted her into his arms. “Tonight, baby, you’re completely mine. By the time we’re finished, we won’t be two separate people.”

Overall, this is a fantastic read. I enjoyed the story and setting of the cattle ranch, the interesting plot, and most of all, the connection between these two characters. The evolution of their relationship is a (smokin’ hot!) delight to read, and the HEA an added bonus 🙂

“This was madness. Matt drove her to the brink with his words and his body and she didn’t fight being out of control. This was more than a simple infatuation and girlhood flights of fancy. She didn’t need to think; it was in the absence of rational thought that he delivered her, into a place where she was free.”

About the Author:

Susan grew up in Miami, Florida and spent summers with her father, a college philosophy professor. Surrounded by stacks of books, she voraciously read throughout her childhood. Her father gave her the Little Prince not once, but several times over the years and the ideas of heartfelt vision stuck. “What matters is beyond the tangible. I love the concept of falling in love. The type of romantic journey that is so intense, it borders on insanity.”–Susan D. Taylor

Susan moved to Nashville where she taught biology and special education as well as coached girls’ soccer. No longer a public school teacher, Susan now writes about consuming passion, how attraction plays out, and characters that are either going to incinerate or meld like ribbons of warm caramel. She lives in TN with her husband, two blue heelers, two cats, a gecko and a snake. An RYT 200 (Yoga Alliance) specializing in vinyasa flow when she’s not writing her next hot romance.
