Book Tour and Review: SEDUCED BY INNOCENCE by Kimberly Kinrade

March 11, 2013 Book Review, Book Tour, Novella/Short Story, Paranormal Romance 1

Review Tour

Today I am pleased to present Seduced by Innocence by Kimberly Kinrade. I have my review and the entire first chapter!

About the Book:

Seduction comes in many forms.

“Liquid fire poured into me, filling me with the intimate sense of him as he leaned in to claim my lips with his own. I reached for him, needing him closer, but my arms couldn’t close the distance between us, which grew wider with each hitched breath. So close to finally feeling something real, something carnal and deep, I cried out in frustration, dropping my hands as he disappeared. My cries deepened into a frenzy of panic and my eyes flew open. I clutched my blanket and stilled myself to calm my racing heart.

Just a dream. Always just a dream.

Rose Wintersong didn’t have an ordinary upbringing. Raised in what most would call a hippy commune, but what is actually a powerful coven of witches, she never questions the life fate chose for her.

Until she meets Derek O’Conner.

Derek challenges everything Rose believes and forces her to see the secrets hidden beneath the whitewashed walls of her idyllic country life.

Rose knows she should walk away, that the sexy martial arts instructor is bad news bred to create discord in her tight community… but the animal magnetism between them is impossible to fight.

Caught between the passion of first love, and the steady beat of the life she’s always known, Rose must choose between the innocence of her youth or the pleasures of womanhood—but lost innocence comes at a price, and Rose harbors a dark secret that could destroy everyone she loves—including Derek.

My Review:

(Note: I reviewed the second book in the series, Seduced by Pain, on March 4.)

I rarely go into things like cover, etc. I prefer to focus on the story. That being said, I have to mention that this book (I read the kindle version) is visually beautiful to read, and I will admit that it added to my enjoyment of the reading experience. Each chapter begins with a small illustration representing the character narrating the chapter, and a Shakespeare quote that relates to that part of the story. These little touches combine seamlessly with the author’s gorgeous prose, including Rose’s emotional diary entries.

I was drawn into Kinrade’s world of the paranormal: lust, greed, and betrayal combine with friendship, love, and loyalty to create an engaging tale of witches and shifters.

My heart broke for Rose as she struggles with her dark gift, a gift that she sees as curse, and has kept her isolated. My heart soared for her when she was finally able to find someone she connects with, but I held my breath, knowing that their tenuous relationship was destined to come crashing down around them.

The story is extremely emotional, sexy, and sensual, with a bit of humor, action, and intrigue added in the mix. Derek is a great alpha-male, and I fell for him along with Rose. I fear their powerful attraction is not enough, and I am desperate to read the next book in the series and find out what fate has in store for these two!

“We witnessed each other, and isn’t that what relationship is about? Bearing witness to one another, witnessing and being witnessed so that our acts of love, passion, kindness, adventure… all the moments that make us human, so that these acts have meaning and memory beyond ourselves?

Whatever else happens, he will forever know me, and I will forever know him.

Book Tour, Review, and Author Guest: BLOOD FLOWS DEEP IN THE EMPIRE by N. Isabelle Blanco

March 8, 2013 Book Review, Book Tour, Erotica, Guest Post, Paranormal Romance 0

blood flows deep large blog tour button

Welcome to the Blood Flows Deep in the Empire Book Tour! I have some pretty cool things to share today: my review and author guest from author N. Isabelle Blanco. The guest spot features the author reading the first chapter of the book!!

About the book:

Dyletri, God of Fertility, has locked away his powers. No woman is allowed to touch him, not until he can return his long-dead lover back to life. All he has to do is sacrifice one human girl, a girl who unlocks his powers and rips his dormant lust right out of his body. Trapped by his promise, Dyletri has no choice but to watch Ismini die, no matter how much he wants her.

Yet the darkness of his calling is spiraling within him, demanding he claim the human as his. If he goes back on his promise, the energy of the Fates will cause untold destruction in the Universe. That doesn’t change how Dyletri’s begun exhibiting symptoms that point to more than just lust. How does he allow Ismini to die when she’s come to own him from the inside out?

Desire and torment spiral into something much darker than obsession, more turbulent than an addiction, and something much more brutal than a mere soul-mating. As a war is being rekindled right under his nose, Dyletri will have to come to terms with a destiny eleven thousand years in the making. He thought he’d known what path his future would take, but he’d been wrong. Now the one woman he truly loves might pay the price for his decision.

Blood Flows Deep in the Empire is the first in a series that will pit free-will against Destiny, Destiny against Fate, and love against brutal desire. Everyone likes to think they have a choice as to who they end up with, but as they rise to face the greatest threat they’ve ever known, even the Gods will learn they have to bend to Destiny’s whim to survive.

My Review:

This unique and otherworldly romance has creative world-building, a cast of engaging three-dimensional characters, a touch of humor, scorching sex scenes, and an action-packed story that keeps the pages flying by.

The author manages to blend the realm of the gods the earth and the world of humans. She has succeeded in creating characters that are obviously god-like but possess a relatable humanity: they possess emotion, empathy, and humor along with their power as Gods of the universe. In Ismini, one of the few human characters, there is vulnerability combined with great strength; she is a character you can’t help but become attached to.

The story has a great plot, but I couldn’t help but focus on the sexual elements. Blanco writes absolutely amazing sex scenes. She writes beautiful encounters of SEX WITH GODS far better than can be imagined. Ismini’s and Dyletri’s chemistry is nothing short of explosive; their encounters as earth-shattering and mind-blowing as sex with the God of Fertility should be: the right combination of exquisite sensuality and violent, all consuming lust.

A story of good versus evil, and love versus duty, this is a fantastic first book in the series and I was left begging for more.

Blood Flows Deep in the Empire podcast

About the author:

N. Isabelle Blanco, the woman who would come to be known as “Nyddi,” was born in Queens, New York. By age three, due to an odd fascination with studying her mother’s handwriting, she’d already begun to read and write. By the time she reached kindergarten, she was reading at a second-grade level, not to mention talking up a storm and showing off her extensive vocabulary. Her obsession with words and reading ended up bleeding into every aspect of her life. As she got older, romance novels took the reins of her obsession, leading her to devour every romance story she could find.

Thanks to the world of Japanese Anime, N. Isabelle was introduced to the wonderful universe of Fanfiction. She would come to write fanfics on and off again as a hobby for the next ten years, but it wasn’t until the Twilight phenomenon came along that she began dedicating hard hours to writing. For the next year and a half, she amassed a following that, by her own admission, she would never be able to live without. It is those fans that encouraged her to step beyond the fanfic realm and take her talent out into the publishing world.

N. Isabelle’s first ebook novel, Destructively Alluring, came out in July of 2012, followed by “Addictive Lunacy” in September, and “Allure Magnified” in November of 2012. The Writer’s Coffee shop Publishing House has recently signed her first print novel, the highly anticipated first book in the Szolite series. Blood Flows Deep in the Empire is scheduled to be released in March of 2013 and will be available in both print
and ebook formats.

About the book:

Title: Ruining You (Ruining #2)

Author: Nicole Reed

Genre: New Adult

Release Date: Jan. 26, 2013

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000038_00071]

For a girl who dared to tempt death, living is the only promise that matters now. Jay’s life almost came to a forced end when her darkest secrets were revealed and the one who she chose to give her future to was ripped away. Now, everything she kept hidden is the topic of everyone’s conversation, and not all are sympathetic. Someone wants her horrific past to dictate her future, and another is determined to help her choose a different path. In conclusion to Ruining Me, Kane and Rhye know that Jay is worth the fight, but waiting for her to find herself may ruin them all.

My Review:

Ruining You is emotional, utterly heartbreaking, and beautifully romantic.

The second in the series, the book can easily be read as a stand-alone: Reed successfully weaves Jay’s backstory into her current life. Characters that are no longer with us for the second book, most notably JT,  are brought to life in dreams and flashbacks. We understand who they are and how they affect Jay’s life in the present along with the characters that are still in her life.

I cried so many tears reading this book. The author brings palpable emotions to the surface through Jay’s tragic past and her incredibly difficult journey towards healing and an uncertain future. I was swept up in her story and didn’t realize until the end how smoothly the author had guided Jay through a transition: so weak and broken at the beginning, and despite harrowing setbacks, so strong in the end.

The book has a little bit of everything, including romance and lust, courtesy of a couple of hot leading men. She has a choice to make, but it seems to me she has really no choice at all (though I myself may have chosen differently). In addition to her men, Jay has the support of friends and family to guide her towards strength and redemption. All of this, with a stunning climax, and the reward of a happily ever after, make this is a great read.

“You know what heaven feels like? It feels like two-hundred pounds of steel muscle wrapped around you with the most invigorating body smell that invaded every sense you have. It is the rythmic beating of his heart as it sounds in my ear. I grip his back, knowing he is really here. It’s the feeling of being safe, protected, and loved. It is everything I am feeling as I am shrouded securely in his arms. I want to hold on tight and never let go.”

Kathleen, Blane and Kade must atone for the sins of the past and the present. The fallout will force Kathleen to a turning point…in her career, and her life.

My Review:

My Rating: 5 Stars!

Wow, what a ride! This book has tons of pulse-pounding action, criminal and political intrigue, a couple of super-sexy male leads, a fantastic heroine, hot romance and even hotter sex!

I really enjoyed Kat’s character, she’s tough and vulnerable at the same time. She’s believable and relatable, a girl I would love to hang out with, have a few glasses of wine, and let her fill me in on the hot men that seem to flock to her and will do anything to keep her safe. She has some serious choices to make: love, career, and ultimately what she wants out of life (is she doesn’t get herself killed!). And of course there’s Kade and Blane… what will she do about them. I won’t spoil the story but I’m Team Kade all the way. I can’t resist a sexy bad-boy, even if he a ruthless killer. 😉

Kade: “Neither Blane nor I are your happily-ever-after, princess. Blane will break your heart, and I’m the guy your mom warned you about. Don’t kid yourself about that.”

This suspense filled page turner is well-written and “unputdownable”. Snow deftly creates a multi-layered plot, with twist, turns, and surprises, but I was never left confused. I was swept up and left breathless by the both the action and the emotional romance. One minute, they’re running for their lives, and the next minute Blane and Kat are in a steamy sex scene, and none of it ever seems out of place. The main cast of characters are well-rounded and the author guarantees that we know them well, witnessing their strengths as well as their vulnerabilities. As far as the series, I am eagerly awaiting the next book!

lifestyles of the fey and dangerous

Title: Lifestyles of the Fey and Dangerous (The Veil #3)

Author: Danica Avet

Publisher: Siren Publishing

My Rating: 5 Stars

It isn’t every day a fairy gets an assignment with only one outcome: her death. As an assassin with the Eturian army, Noelani “Shade” Fayard has killed more than her share of traitors, but for the first time in centuries, she hesitates to take out her target. The Halfling marked for death makes her wonder what life would be like if it weren’t for the blood staining her hands and soul. He makes her feel for the first time in centuries. Malachi Cromwell, a former Eturian general, wants to reclaim his place in The Veil, not fall in lust or love. He knows better than to let his heart take the lead, especially when he discovers Lani was sent to kill him, just like she’d killed the very people who held his fate in their hands. Can they overcome their distrust and bitter pasts to forge a future together?

My Review:

The third book in the series, this can easily be read as a stand-alone. Familiar characters are present, but Avet focuses on Malachi, an intriguing secondary character from the previous books, and Lani, a new addition.

This book is decidedly darker and edgier than its predecessors. Both primary characters are burdened with shadowy pasts and deep physical and emotional scars. Avet writes their characters very well: cold and calculated on the outside, with deep emotion just barely hidden. Their separate journeys towards healing and seemingly impossible redemption are gripping and heart-wrenching. Thrown together by circumstance, their romance has heat and unmistakable lust, but their improbable union has an undertone of desperation: it may be the only thing that can save them.

This book has the series’ usual action, intrigue, romance, and still a bit of humor, but Avet shows her dark side, and the result is a fantastic read.

succubus in waiting

Title: Succubus-In-Waiting (The Veil #2)

Author: Danica Avet

Publisher: Siren Publishing

My Rating: 5 Stars

It isn’t easy holding onto your virginity in a succubus Pleasure House, but Piper Foxgrove has managed for decades. As a rare succubus-weretiger Halfling, Piper dreams of true love-to the consternation of her mother. Forced to work with a bad-tempered, good-looking werewolf looking for his nephew, Piper’s determined to ignore his sexiness. Unfortunately, her succubus half decides he’s the key to unlocking her powers while her recently awakened weretiger half thinks he’s perfect mate material. Connor Griffin’s brother died because of “soul suckering” succubi, so he doesn’t trust them. But Connor needs to find his nephew-the Veil can be dangerous-and worry makes him take drastic measures, like working with a succubus. But something about Piper calls to his wolf and has him doing things he never thought he’d do, like work with a succubus, lust after a succubus, and fall in love with a sassy, sexy succubus with tiger-striped hair.

My Review:

Avet has once again written a story with fantastic characters, a great plot, steamy romance, and her own brand of humor. The second book in the series, Succubus in Waiting could easily be read as a stand-alone. I was pleased to see some of my favorite characters from the first book, but this story focuses on new characters, Piper and Connor.
The plot is intriguing and flows easily but the intense relationship between these two is the highlight. Piper has beauty, sass, strength, humor and a relatable vulnerability and is complemented well by the sexy, intelligent, and protective alpha-male. The writing of these dual-natured supernatural beings is clever and creative. By giving a personality to their supernatural sides, the author creates very interesting and three-dimensional characters. Their relationship is a slow burn, filled with delicious sexual tension, and a climax not to be missed.

Title: Ruby: Uncut and on the Loose

Author: Danica Avet

Publisher: Siren Publishing

My Rating: 4 Stars

Ruby Fontenot, a Cajun hermit, loses control of her life when she’s tapped to become the last Lineage Chieftain in a paranormal world she had no idea existed. With the power to change the face of The Veil by choosing its leaders, Ruby is now a wanted woman. Once she meets a member of the Veilerian High Council, what began as a fight for her life turns into a fight for her heart and her freedom. As the High Council Representative, Lucian Ravenswaay has spent decades searching for the elusive Lineage Chieftain only to discover she’s his life mate. But this vampire has bigger plans than settling down; he wants a Council seat and to get it, he’ll have to turn Ruby over to them. The line between what he wants and what he needs is blurred and making the wrong choice could mean the destruction of an entire society.

My Review:

Well written, exciting, often humorous and incredibly sexy, this book has so much to offer any reader, not only fans of the genre. Avet has created The Veil, a world that exists within our own, and she so expertly brings the lively and diverse cast of supernatural characters to life that it’s not hard to imagine that they may be living alongside us right now.

At the heart of the story is Ruby, forced by circumstances on an emotional journey towards self-discovery, strength, and love. The author provides her the perfect match in the vampire Lucian, and theirs is a harrowing and page-gripping story of need, lust and betrayal, with a satisfying end. I am eagerly anticipating the next book in the series.

Book Tour: Author Guest – RED ZONE by Sherri Hayes

February 14, 2013 Book Tour, Contemporary Romance, Guest Post, Romance 1

red zone blog banner

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone! A little romance to heat up your day…

Welcome to the Red Zone by Sherri Hayes book tour! Today I have a guest spot with the author. She is sharing with us what hottie quarterback Gage would do for Rebecca on Valentines day…

Gage would want to spoil Rebecca, but knowing how uncomfortable she would be if he went overboard, I see him surprising her. He’d take her to a fancy hotel, and then he’d try to cover her eyes as they made their way up to one of the hotel suites.

The entire suite would be set up with flowers, but not too many. She wouldn’t like that. He’d make sure there were just enough to let her know how special she is without overwhelming her.

Not far from the bank of windows overlooking the city, a table would be set up with their dinner. He would go out of his way to be a gentleman, and pull out her chair before taking his seat. They would share a private dinner together, and follow it up with a little dancing.

After that, they’d retire to the bedroom where Gage would have set up with more flowers and a few candles. Again, nothing too over the top.

He’d spend the next couple of hours showing her just how much she means to him before wrapping her in his arms and falling asleep, whispering “Happy Valentine’s Day, beautiful.”

Me: *sigh*

About the book:

After a case ended badly for Rebecca Carson, she’s losing her mind sitting around her apartment waiting on her superiors to allow her to return to work. Since she was a teenager, the only thing she’d ever wanted was to join the FBI. Now that dream was in danger.

Gage Daniels has made a pretty good life for himself. A nice house. A career he loves. As a professional football player, he’s used to getting almost everything he’d ever want with just the snap of his fingers. This includes women. A well-timed smile is usually all it takes to attract the opposite sex, especially in Nashville.

When a stalker threatens Gage, the team owner calls an old friend, Rebecca’s ex-partner Travis Hansen, to help protect his star quarterback and find the person responsible. Hansen offers Rebecca the job, and she jumps at the chance. It’s work, and it will get her out of her apartment. How bad can it be?

Posing as Gage’s girlfriend, however, isn’t as easy as it seems. The man is relentless. Rebecca must work to protect Gage while staving off his advances. She’s there to do a job, nothing more. The last thing she wants is to be another notch on a hotshot athlete’s belt.

As the stalker continues to up the ante, Rebecca finds it harder and harder to keep her distance from Nashville’s star quarterback. He isn’t what she expected in one of the city’s most notorious playboys. Now all she has to do is keep him safe until they can find his stalker, and hope she doesn’t lose her heart in the process.

Book Review: INIQUITOUS SOLACE by Max and Penelope Jones

February 12, 2013 BDSM, Book Review, Erotica, Favorite Books 0

Iniquitous solace

Title: Iniquitous Solace

Authors: Max and Penelope Jones

Publisher: Cherish Desire

Release Date: January 30, 2013

My Rating: 5 Stars

Iniquitous Solace’ is the tale of two lovelorn strangers. Chance has placed them in each other’s path, and their encounter is captured through powerful erotic poetry. Through the eyes of our poets, we follow them on an emotional journey through life. As we delve deep into their souls, we share their joys and heartbreaks, their passions and lusts. The poetry is written in the raunchy style you’ve come to love from these writers, and now all they ask is you take the plunge, and indulge in ‘Iniquitous Solace’ – their ‘Rhythmic Words of Lust and Love.’

My Review:

Here’s the deal: I rarely (okay, pretty much never) read poetry. But, this particular book looked interesting so I thought I’d give it a try. I am so glad that I did: I hate to think that I would have missed out.

I read the book all the way through, quickly, and then immediately read it again. I wanted, no needed, to continue the experience. It is beautiful, dark, and deliciously sexy. Told in a back and forth between the two characters, the story is wonderfully realized through emotionally raw, captivating, and often delightfully kinky poems. Two people with dark pasts and deep-seated fears find fulfillment and comfort in their mutual lust, love, and understanding. As much as I enjoyed their sensual journey as whole, each poem is wonderful in its own right.

This book will go in the ever-growing pile of books that I love and will pick up again and again, a pleasure to read and destined to become a great friend.

“Over under, atop of me and more

You know just how to make me mewl and turn me into your whore

You love me, you need me, you want me too

Always there to push, and to guide me

I need to just wait for your cue

Our lives become one, I begin where you end

Because of you I transcend

I love you today, tomorrow, forever

We will endeavor

Diary of a Fuckdoll Part 5 promises to deliver more kinky sex and depraved acts as Tristan continues to pursue ownership of Lisa.  Waking from a coma, Lisa is at first unable to remember–legitimately, this time–how she got into this mess, and is in turns confused and slaked by Tristan’s treatment of her, physically & emotionally as well as medically.  When Lisa overhears Tristan receiving a blow job from a flight attendant on their way to Dubai, she decides to go off her meds just to see what happens.  What comes next is a life-changing experience she’ll never forget, pitting her against the man whose throbbing hot cock she adores, but whose dominance she loves to hate.  Who will prevail?  Discover how the wealthy men of the world bond over blondes and sex alongside Lisa in this leg of her journey: THE BILLIONAIRE WHO CLONED ME, Diary of a Fuckdoll part 5.

My Review:

Wow! I did not see that coming…

Part 5 takes the series to a whole other level: I didn’t expect this twist at all. Once again, End gives us incredibly original, creative, hot, sinfully dark, and fantastically well-written non-con.

Tristan is the billionaire I love to hate, and I have no idea where this series will go next, but I can’t wait to find out!

“Once again I felt my heart toss and turn, a full-throttle agitation of emotions. I couldn’t help but love him, no matter I hated him. He smiled and even in this most delicate of states, barely able to move, I felt my body turn on to him.”
