My Review

My Rating: 4.5 Stars

“In this world, all lust is grief.”

In this exciting story of romance and adventure, two professional treasure hunters are thrown in to an unfamiliar world, filled with ancient religions and modern gangsters. East meets west when the Rachel and Chase must navigate dangerous waters, booby-trapped tombs, human traffickers, and Japan’s mysterious culture, religion, and dangerous Yakuza assassins. The fish out of water aspect is multi-layered and wonderfully detailed and is a fantastic backdrop to this exciting, sexy, and dangerous book.

My head was spinning as I eagerly turned the pages, following a vast cast of characters as the story unraveled with surprise after surprise. From the beginning, I felt like I had the characters pegged, but they constantly challenged any pre-conceived notions I may have had as their stories developed. I became invested in all of the characters, even the villains. But, Rachel and Chase had my greatest loyalty and I enjoyed their romance and the way they overcame adversity, not just in their relationship, but in the face of grave danger.

The action and adventure of an Indiana Jones movie, the murderous intrigue of the yakuza, and the mystique of geishas and monks all swirl around a pair of sexy and brave treasure hunters. This is a huge and exciting story, beautifully realized as emotion blends with suspense. A nail-biting climax is followed up by a satisfying conclusion and the promise of much more to come from these great characters and their engaging world.

“…’Sometimes you just need to have a little faith before you dive in.’

‘And what is the pool’s deep and you can’t swim?’, she asked.

‘Then you learn how to tread water.’ ”

My Rating: 4.5 Stars

“And now he wanted more. More of her body, but more of her too. Her mind, her soul. He wanted to see how far he could push, how far she would go.”

Ok, admit it. You have at some time in your life looked at a man (or woman, or both!) that belonged to another. Maybe it was someone close to you, maybe not. Maybe you had a real chemistry or maybe you were attracted just because it’s forbidden. Either way, that attraction is hot!

Now, imagine it’s your sister’s super hot husband and she doesn’t want him anymore, never deserved him to begin with. When you kiss him, something clicks and you both know it and the sex promised by this kiss promises to be mind-blowing. What would you do? (Ummm yeah, I’d give in!)

Diana Bocco tells this story WAY better than I do. The chemistry between Luke and Cailin is electric and the sex is oh-my-god amazing. In just the span of a novella, we get a complete story: the delicious build of tension, the sizzling sex, the drama of a forbidden relationship, and the emotion that comes when a relationship is more than just the sex. This is a perfect one-sitting read with a satisfying conclusion. I look forward to more hot, forbidden romances from this series.

” ‘You can do whatever you want with me, Luke.’ His eyes narrowed. ‘Anything? Because I like ex to be dirty, rough, and dark, If you’re looking for soft, I can’t give you that.’ “

My Review

My Rating: 5 Stars

” ‘You make me a lot of things Miss Natalie Bouchard, but crazy isn’t one of them. I got there without your help.’ “

So here’s the thing: I like my romances all dark and twisty and kinky edgy. BUT, apparently I also love second chance romances that are lighter, heartwarming, charming, sexy, (and maybe just a teeny bit kinky), as long as they are written just like this book. That’s not to say that Chance of Rain is all sugary sweetness and light. It’s not over sweet: there’s real life drama and palpable emotion emotion, sizzling chemistry, and HOT and slightly edgy sex. The author strikes the exact perfect balance between romance and sex and hope, only tinged with a bit of relatable darkness.

The small town setting is perfect for the lovable characters that inhabit Natlie’s world and were once a part of Sawyer’s, though he left directly after high-school to become a Navy SEAL. He left behind an innocent and heart-broken young girl that grew up to be a beautiful women that had reserved a place in her heart for him. Sawyer, a surly, sexy alpha male, can’t help his attraction to the loyal and independent Natalie. The tension and chemistry as they reconnect is fantastic and the sparks fly as they move from flirtation to steamy sex.

Their story is beautifully written, I was completely taken by the emotion and the characters of this wonderful, hopeful book. I swooned at the romance, and laughed and cried as the pages flew by, all the way to the happily-ever-after. As far as I’m concerned, this perfect combination of sex and sweet and drama and emotion is exactly how romance is done.

“Yes. I can’t admit it yet, but I want every kinky, dirty, passionate thing in the night, a counterpoint to the whole, heartwarming days.”

I am not a slut, although I’ve been called one often enough. Yeah, I spent three months screwing one of my college professors, but I was crazy about the guy. Then he broke up with me.

I am not a bitch, although people like to say I am. I kept our relationship secret. I’m not responsible for telling the university administrators about it, but a lot of students still blame me for getting their favorite professor fired.

I am not a drama queen, although everyone thinks I am now. When I got a few nasty messages, I just deleted them. When I got the threat, I assumed it was someone being stupid. I still think that’s all it was. My parents worry, though, so they hired me a bodyguard. Now Jack follows me around, intimidating everyone who approaches me and looking obnoxiously hot.

This is what I am. I’m Chloe. I’m a twenty-year-old art history major. Kind of shy, although I pretend not to be. Stubborn enough to stay here for my senior year, even though everyone hates me.

And I’m stuck with Jack.

He calls me “Princess,” but I’m not a princess either.

My Review

My Rating: 4 Stars

“No matter how much I want her, I’m not going to let go. I’m not going to fall. If I fell with her- for her- then I’d never be able to stop.”

I truly enjoyed this story: the story of two people who are dealing with the buried guilt and aftermath of their perceived mistakes. No matter how many walls these two put up, and how hard they push each other away, it’s clear that their efforts are in vain.

The story is written from the perspectives of both of the main characters, and the alternating POV is executed smoothly, never interfering with the flow of the book. I particularly enjoyed Chloe’s voice. Both voices feel very real, genuine, and honest, but the humor in her tone, mixed with sadness and strength, really struck a chord with me. Jack’s voice is a bit more intense, but has the same very natural and relatable feel. Nothing about the interaction between Chloe and Jack feels forced: the chemistry is unmistakable, the banter charming, the sex hot, and the emotional roller coaster they experience as they come to terms with their attraction has the right balance of angsty emotion.

Chloe’s character shows both vulnerability and strength in the ways she deals with her situation. Though she feels very innocent, she is unapologetic about her sexuality and I like that. In contrast to the tiny and somewhat naive Chloe, Jack is all raw strength and protective alpha male, with just a touch of brokenness: and it’s hot.

“It’s Jack. Only Jack. In all of his strength and passion and possessive fire and absolute devotion. And it’s all centered on me. For whatever reason. He’s giving it all to me.”

This is simple story, told with just enough emotion and angst, and punctuated by a sexy romance. An an enjoyable read, with very genuine characters, some striking moments, and a satisfying ending that promises more to come.

“When you strip everything else away, you’re left only with the raw, vulnerable core of another person. And, if you can’t trust the other to take care of it, to protect it like they protect themselves, then the shell closes down around it again, keeping the other away from anything that matters.”

My Review

My Rating: 5 Stars

” ‘Open your eyes sweetheart. I want you to see who’s fucking you senseless.’ “

I’m heartbroken, and angry, and emotional, and in love with this book. Truth.

Why am I all of those things, you ask? Because once again, Scarlett Dawn has pulled me completely in to this world she has created, made me fall even more in love with these characters (if that is even possible), and then thrown this world and my emotions in to a tailspin.

Just as intense, if not more, than the first in the series, King Cave gives the reader a fully realized magical world, a brilliant cast of characters, heart-pounding action, danger, laugh out loud humor, heartbreak, friendship, love, and hot sex. Though I missed Jack and Pearl not being a huge part of the story, it was necessary in order to fully experience the chemistry and passion of Ezra and Lily. They are intense: one minute fighting, one minute laughing, and the next minute having amazing sex. I just couldn’t get enough of them. There are so many layers to their relationship: friends, lovers, and loyal comrades.

Every minute of this book kept my head and heart reeling, and the pages flying by. The unexpected just kept coming, and I’m once again impressed with the author’s bravery in the way she handles her characters and their story: she pulls no punches. The final pages of the book left me heartbroken, and just a tiny bit hopeful. It’s clear that even though we are well in to this amazing series, there is so much more story to come. I’ll let that glimmer of hope keep me going until the next installment.

“Straight to the crux of the matter. Duty, What we lived and breathed. I despised it most days… but hating it didn’t change the fact that it needed to be done.”

My Review

My Rating: 5+ Stars

“Don’t be scared, Captain No-Fun, we got this.”

I loved this book! It gave me some fantastic reading moments, moments of intense emotion: happiness, heartbreak, fear, and love. It also provided me with one of my favorite reading experiences… the ugly cry punctuated with laughing out loud. For that reason alone, I suggest you grab this book, give yourselves a few hours of privacy, and enjoy!

Cora is a female lead you can’t help but adore. Sassy, spunky, tiny, tattooed, pierced, and strong as hell, she takes care of those around her. She’s a force to be reckoned with: a woman that has faced devastating heartbreak head-on and is charging in to a now uncertain future with such courage. Despite her strength, she shows just enough vulnerability and weakness, she’s emotional and real.

“She tasted sweet. She tasted like redemption. She tasted like the future I didn’t need to figure out anymore.”

Rome, our male lead, absolutely did it for me. The author’s descriptions created a drop-dead gorgeous adonis, with some sexy battle wounds, visible and invisible. A soldier, brother, and fantastic lover. I want him to protect me, and to take him in my arms and help him heal, but I can’t help but feel that Cora is absolutely the only one to do that for him. His story feels important, and I enjoyed the unique way the author tells this story, and the unconventional (but perfectly imperfect) path to healing.

“It was so easy just to get lost in him. The more I did it, the less I wanted to be found.”

This is an amazing story of healing and redemption, heartbreak and hope. I loved the angst balanced with humor, and all of the very real, funny, and rough around the edges characters. I was taken in by the intense emotion and mind-blowing sex. The writing is clean, witty, clever, and even poignant and there’s more than a few oh-my-god surprises to keep the pages flying.

Rome is the first of the Marked Men books I have read (I know, I know! I suck!) but I’m hooked. I loved the main characters in this story, Rome and Cora, but I’m desperate know to read the rest of the stories. The author has created such a cohesive group of vibrant, unique, and relatable characters; even with all of their difficulties and turmoil, I want to be their friend!

“I realized now love didn’t do any good if you held on to it in a death grip. It only had purpose, had power, when you had the courage to hand it over to someone else for safekeeping.”

My Rating: 5 Stars

Wunder Vol. 1 is one of my favorite post-apocalyptic reads! It has so many elements that I love: a kick-ass heroine, a sexy leading man, hot sex, sweet romance, tons of action, and of course, ZOMBIES!

I read and completely enjoyed each book in the Wunder series, and I love that it’s now a compilation. The bonus material was great and added to the flow of the story, making it smooth and cohesive.

Wunder and Pete are couple that have a lot to live for, each other, friends, and loved ones, but just surviving in their world is a fight. Zombie hordes and past secrets threaten their love and very existence, but this is a couple to root for. What’s worth fighting for, hoping for, but love and the possibility of a future?

Dream sequences flow with hot sex scenes and heart-pounding, action-packed fights. Emotion and humor also find their way in to this zombie novel that has both heat and heart; a great twist on the post-apocalyptic romance.

My Review

My Rating: 5 Stars

“Adelina Thompson and her daughters were likely in a great deal of danger.”

I’m still trying to catch my breath! I was so excited to read more of the lives of the Thompson Sisters. Julia’s story has always been my favorite but the others touched me deeply as well. BUT, I had no idea of the larger picture. There’s an entire story behind the girls: a web of lies, violence, conspiracy, and deceit at the highest levels of international government and intelligence. Through no fault of their own, the Thompson women and those they hold dearest are in very grave danger.

Sheehan-Miles writes mystery and suspense beyond anything I could have hoped for. (I know, where’s the romance?) Even without the stories of the sisters’ romances, there’s such intense and palpable emotion woven through every thread of the story. These women have endured such heartbreaking losses, difficult lives, complete family dysfunction, and yet remain as strong as they can. It’s clear they will need every ounce of that strength for what is to come.

I loved this book. The action is intense and heart-pounding, their are mysteries and surprises around each corner, it is expertly written, and there are the sisters: characters that I adore and feel close to. My heart has loved with them, hoped with them, broken with them, and felt loss with them. I’m so excited to share in the next chapter of their exciting journey. I’m already completely invested in this next chapter of their lives, and it seems this newest story, grander in scale than I could have imagined, is only just beginning.

Book Description:

4. The number of times my delicate wings have been broken and clamped behind my back.

68. The number inked upon my skin, marking me the sixty-eighth pixie to be stolen.

87. The number of days I’ve been wrongfully imprisoned.

88. The first day the faeries will regret stealing me.
Healthy. Cheery. Vivacious. All traits Rosalie has before becoming enslaved by the faeries to make an endless supply of pixie dust. Now that Rosalie has been traumatized by slave labor, extreme desolate conditions and multiple deaths, this hardened pixie is anything but. When this rebellious teenager attempts an escape, she’s isolated in cramped quarters until she learns her place. Just as she begins to let go of all that hope, she finds an unlikely friend in Jack, the faerie assigned to guard her. Interspecies dating is forbidden in the fae world, so their growing attraction is unacceptable. And even if Jack can find a way to free her, they know the prison is the only place they can truly be together.
Clean YA Fantasy.

My Review

My Rating: 4 Stars

“I realize with each passing second how difficult it’ll be to escape this nightmare.”

Are you looking for a story that’s unique and original, that transports the reader to another place, an escape from your own reality? This book is it. That’s not to say that this book is a light and easy read. Some of it is even quite difficult and harrowing: even though the characters are of the fae, the author makes the pain and torture of their slavery feel quite real.

The world building is beautifully detailed, but not overly so, never interfering with the flow of the plot. It’s just enough to draw the reader in; I feel like I now know what it looks and feels like to be a pixie, albeit a tortured and enslaved but very strong and brave pixie. Rosalie, our heroine, is a survivor and a leader. She endures the extreme pain of having her wings broken, slave labor, starvation, and torture. But, she still holds on to the hope that there is an escape, and she is determined to save all of the other pixies, those that are not as strong as herself. Any reader can’t help but feel for and cheer for this sassy, spunky, and incredibly courageous character.

I enjoyed the chaste, though forbidden romance between Rosalie and Jack. There’s something about relationships formed in extreme circumstances an in the face of extreme characters: a connection and understanding based on a shared experience and such a strong bond. Even in the darkness of their circumstances, there was lightness and even moments of humor in their romance.

This book is appropriate for YA readers but is certainly a book for adults as well. I loved the entire journey, the immersive storytelling, and the fae characters that feel human in their own way. This first book in the series left me eagerly anticipating the next installment.
