About the Book

Ariston Dago is a sentry, a protector for his people. He watches the waters of his territory, keeping his god and his race safe both above and below the murky depths around Venice, Italy. When he’s compelled to save a human that falls from a transport, his life is forever changed, because the human he saves, Teagan Moss, is his mate, the first human to ever mate a Dagonite.

Teagan Moss is the kind of woman to shoot first and then question the body later. When she wakes with a Hydro bomb strapped to her body, she knows someone is going to pay for trying to kill her, and that she is going to need the help of the sexy exotic Dagonite to find out who exactly needs that bullet in their brain. What she doesn’t count on, is the scorching attraction she feels for the male who is so certain she is his.

Thrust into solving the mystery surrounding the attempt on his mate’s life, Ari and Teagan uncover more than the answers they are looking for, and the truths they unearth could send the world into another war.

My Review

” ‘Well where I come from that’s called first base, and I just don’t go any further without the threat to my mate lifted, or the very least dinner. But I like that you want me to.’ He winked. ‘So shall we go see about those weapons?’

Teagan scowled. ‘Let’s. I have the need to shoot someone.’

‘Bring it babe, that’s foreplay.’ “

This book had me at “Hello, here’s my blurb”, and imagine my excitement when  it turned out to be fantastic! I’m pretty much all in for stories of romance post-apocalyse, but this book was so much more. With it’s original fantasy elements, great cast of characters, super steamy sex, and action-packed plot it was everything I was looking for and more.

The world as we know it has been destroyed by humanity and is now populated by other races that are not quite human, and humans face rebuilding their society alongside these other beings. Teagan Moss is an ambassador, and though she is well-liked and respected among most races, hers is a dangerous job in these volatile times. That becomes abundantly clear when there’s an attempt on her life that is also an attempt to off-set any shaky world peace that exists. Fortunately, she is rescued. Fortunately for the reader, she happens to be rescued by the incredibly sexy octopus shifter (yes I said “octopus”; we’ll get to that in a minute), the warrior, Ari. It’s clear from their first moments together that there’s absolutely sizzling chemistry. I love this couple together. Strong and protective as Ari is, Teagan’s a bad-ass in her own right; no damsels in distress here. Their connection is laced with humor, incredible sex, and eventually, genuine love that has the potential to change to world.

Oh yeah, octopus shifter. I am aware it sounds a bit strange and I was a a bit skeptical at first, but you’re just going to have to trust me on this one. Sex with a Dagonite is HOT! I’m in love with this totally new and totally original brand of shifter.

I enjoyed this book, start to finish. The exciting plot moves quickly is is filled to the brim with action, humor, intrigue, sex, and romance. Even though the author has the difficult task of building a new world and introducing new races, technology, an political system, she accomplishes it seamlessly. I felt completely immersed in the world she created, even while the plot never slows. This book is a perfect start to a series: it has it’s own complete story and introduces a compelling cast of characters, and a it’s clear that a much larger plot is just beginning. I can’t wait for more of this series.

“The man was everything she had ever wanted, sexy, funny, accepting of who she was and what she wanted outta life. He didn’t try to shelter her; he didn’t try to control her. Ari loved her for who she was.”

About the Book

Adams Apple

Touch of Tantra #1

By: Liv Morris

Adam Kingsley reigns as the young prince of Manhattan. Everything he touches turns to gold, making him the envy of Wall Street. Women swoon at his feet, money falls out of his pockets, and his killer good looks are as wicked as sin. A dangerous trifecta.

What more could a thirty-two-year-old man wish for? Maybe that his life never changes and his past stays far away? Sounds reasonable, but life seldom is.

Kathryn Delcour is a beautiful and alluring socialite with unique erotic tastes. When she suddenly appears on the New York City social scene, Adam finds her too tempting to resist. He has to have her, but she is warned to stay away from him and his player ways. She tries her hardest to keep him at arm’s length, but Kathryn’s arms may not be strong enough to hold Adam at bay.

Hidden secrets, Kathryn’s passion for an ancient sexual practice, and a former business partner wanting to inflict a deadly revenge set the scene for a wild ride as Adam tells the story in his own words.

My Review

My Rating: 3.5 Stars

“So far the beast in me remains wild and undomesticated. However, I don’t remember a woman inducing such a raw desire in me like Kathryn Delcour.”

Adam’s Apple offers a little something different than the more typical billionaire romances. This is not a story of a young, innocent ingenue being swept off her feet by the sexually brilliant but emotionally flawed businessman. Adam is a wealthy man with no shortage of young, beautiful women to take care of his sexual needs. Enter Kathryn: stunning, clever, and with her own wealth and sexual prowess, she is Adam’s equal, if not his superior in many ways. She’s a strong, confident character, and they are a great match.

There are so many aspects of this book that worked for me. I loved Kathryn and her clever remarks, her confident sexiness. I enjoyed the engaging storyline, the original plot, and the chemistry between the main characters. I was excited to read a book from the male character’s point-of-view and the author does a good job creating an interesting, multi-layered character, but I didn’t love Adam. Something about Adam’s voice just read a little off for me. It didn’t sound natural or flow as well as I would have liked. It did interfere with my ability to really connect with his character.

As a whole, this is a completely enjoyable story, with a great combination of romance and suspense, an interesting tantric twist, and a fantastically refreshing female lead.

” ‘The truth is all the money you possess can’t make you a man.’ “

Alayna Withers has only had one kind of relationship: the obsessive, crazy stalker kind. Now that Hudson Pierce has let her into his heart, she’s determined to stay away from her past tendencies and develop their love into more than just amazing sex. At least Hudson is as dedicated to her as she is to him, though she could do without his new found jealousy and need to control everything. To complicate matters, Hudson has his own baggage including a penchant for mind games and a hateful alcoholic mother who’s set on destroying any happiness he might find with Alayna.

Needing insight, Alayna turns to an unlikely source—Celia Werner. Celia’s been in love with Hudson herself and knows how to ride the rocky waves of the emotionally closed-off man. But when Celia’s true motivations behind their friendship are revealed, Hudson’s commitment might not be as solid as Alayna thinks, and even their all-consuming passion for each other isn’t enough to fix their mistrusts. This is the first relationship where Alayna hasn’t spiraled out of control. And she might lose Hudson anyway…

My Review

My Rating: 4.5 Stars

“Our pasts will always threaten to come between us. But nothing can come between us unless we let it.”

I was so happy to get to spend some more time with one of my favorite couples, Alayna and Hudson. Found in You picks up immediately where the first book left off and I felt like I had only just finished the first book, though it was months ago. The story and the characters had stuck with me and the author immediately brought me right in to the moment: into Alayna’s whirlwind emotions and the amazingly sexy, domineering presence of Hudson.

This second book in the series completely lived up to my high expectations. We really got to see growth in these two characters as they continue to struggle to find trust and stability and a real, solid relationship. It’s absolutely clear how they feel about each other: the chemistry is beyond sizzling, the sex HOT, and their love towards each other is genuine. Old habits and insecurities get in the way as more past secrets are uncovered. Alayna in particular shows how far she has come in her handling of the precarious situation and volatile emotions. It made me like her even more: she’s far from perfect but recognizes her her issues and does her best to deal with them. She may be neurotic and a little insecure but her strength and determination to move past it is admirable. And Hudson, well he’s Hudson. Sexy as all hell and I can’t help but feel like his dark past makes him even more alluring, especially now that he too is trying to move beyond it.The story holds some definite surprises and I was rooting for this couple all the way through.

This book is romantic, super sexy and moves along quickly and smoothly. It’s not without darkness and angst but it’s well-balanced with humor and warmth. I truly enjoyed getting deeper in to this couple’s lives and reading what felt like a natural progression for these characters. I am eagerly awaiting the next installment in this series.

My Review

My Rating: 4 Stars

SO. MUCH. FUN. An entertaining twist on Snow White and the Seven Dwarves set in a post-apocalyptic world that is completely overrun by zombies. Gwyn Snow just might have a cure for the zombie virus, but it’s going to take all of the combined wits, will, and bravery of her new family of Rafe Charming, Doc, and the orphaned boys to make it happen. Gwyn must risk her own life for the chance to save many.

I love fairytale rewrites and this one was great! Loosely based and with the added fun of zombie gore, lots of action, and some spicy-sweet love-making. The story is relatively short and very fast-paced, but everything is there: endearing characters, a good bit of exciting violence, and a sweet romance complete with the fairytale ending.

Who doesn’t love a story with a hot zombie hunting hero and an incredibly brave heroine who finds love and family and manages to find a way to save the world?

” ‘And I always keep my promises, Princess.’ I dropped a kiss on her lips. ‘Guaranteed.’ “

My Review

“He didn’t care about the past, what complications she presented. She had always belonged to him, and touching her was as necessary as breathing.”

Romantic suspense with an interesting relationship twist, Explosive has danger, intrigue, mystery, romance, and steamy sex. I applaud the author for bravely tackling a tricky menage that isn’t all black and white and threesome sex. The lines are blurred and the waters are muddy, but the emotions are real.

Returning home for his sister’s wedding, Jayce is faced with Alyssa, and the passionate feelings he still has in spite of ten years apart and a mountain of secrets and lies the stands between them. Further complicating the scenario is Alyssa’s relationship with with Jayce’s childhood best friend, Brice. There’s still a chance for Alyssa and Jayce to find common ground, but there is so much standing in their way. I wouldn’t consider Alyssa to be a lovable character, but I could empathize with her somewhat. She has made and continues to make some selfish and stupid decisions. She really seems like a woman that is simply overwhelmed by all of the difficulties surrounding her past and present and this interferes with her ability to get it together and make better decisions concerning her life and her relationships. All of that aside, I did want to see things fall in to place for her and Jayce, and for Brice. Regardless of how the reader may feel about the dynamics of the relationships and potential relationships, the chemistry sizzles and the sex is hot.

I really enjoyed the aspects of the story outside of just the romantic entanglements. The danger and intrigue kept me interested. The book is well-paced, perhaps a tiny bit slow for my personal tastes, certainly not hurried. It speeds up at the right points and slows down to highlight the moments that carry the most impact. Overall, a very good book with a unique romance, and plenty of sex, secrets, lies, and suspense.

About the Book

Book two in the Bound to You series. Can be read as a stand-alone.

After a painful past, Brian Donovan can’t afford to get close to anyone, especially a submissive. His growing lust for a certain mouthy bartender has been easy to keep under wraps, at least until he catches her snooping through his files. Spanking her senseless was not one of his better ideas. Even worse, he entices her into a relationship based on power exchange—no sappy sentiments, no messy emotional entanglements, strictly dominance and submission. He doesn’t count on Genevieve being the one submissive who makes him want to feel again.

Gen Hawthorn’s life is a mess. She’s always late for work, can’t keep a boyfriend and has a closetful of family secrets. When her gorgeous boss offers her a kinky no-strings arrangement, she can’t say no. Being dominated by the star of all her dirty fantasies sounds like what she needs. She just has to remember his most important rule—don’t fall in love.

As their affair heats up, lines are crossed, tears are spilled and they discover just how difficult sticking to the rules can be.

My Review

“Her defiance actually turned him on, which was unusual. He’d never had the patience or interest for mouthy, willful women, especially those of the submissive persuasion. Lately though, he’d grown bored an uninspired by the sweet, malleable subs he was usually drawn to. Maybe a change of pace was exactly what they he needed. Maybe Genevieve was exactly what he needed.”

This story easily brings together engaging storytelling and breathtaking erotica. The author deftly takes on sadism, masochism, and a complicated D/s dynamic with a book that is edgy enough for experienced readers of the BDSM genre but could still appeal to the newly converted.

I will admit that the beginning of the book was a little slow for me; certainly not the action, the author jumps right in to the relationship between Gen and Brian. It just seemed a little familiar: Dom looks for sub and a no emotions relationship and it seems pretty clear they will eventually develop some sort of feelings for one another. BUT, a little ways in a realized I was totally taken in by the characters, their chemistry, the burning underly emotion, and the extremely well-written BDSM sex scenes. I was hooked and along for the ride, and rewarded with a fantastic story of an intriguing D/s couple: two characters that I connected with and became emotionally invested in. Most of all, I fought for this couple: laughed with them, cried with them, and felt their emotional pain, and Genevieve’s delicious physical pain.

I highly recommend this book for fans of the genre. Fallon Blake has written a story that is original, heartfelt, emotional, AND has incredibly hot sex scenes. I will absolutely read more from this author in the future.

“The blind trust she had in him amazed him sometimes. She reveled in her submissiveness without shame. There was so much more to her than simple obedience. He had no idea what he’d seen in the mindless subs of his past. They’d obeyed without question but also without heart or soul or passion. Pale imitations of his Genevieve, every last one.”

*I received a complimentary copy of the book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

There’s tortured. And there’s Garth Black.

His life has been a constant carousel of tragedy and disappointment, including his love life. Of course, applying the term “love” to Garth’s conquests is a gross misuse of the word. Some people were made to give and accept love, and others weren’t. Garth Black redefines the “others” category. He’s made a vow that the day he meets a woman who could sucker him into falling in love will be the day he runs away.

Garth’s plan has one flaw. What happens when he’s already fallen hard for a girl before the warning signs and red flags go up? What happens when the love he’s avoided his entire life brings him to his knees? What happens when Garth Black lets the dirtiest four letter word he’s ever known into his dark, lonely life?

This cowboy’s about to find out he can control some things, and he can’t control others. Number one on the what he can’t control list?

Love.

My Review

My Rating: 5 Stars

“Everything she was saying about the trail she’d navigate if she gave me the chance was right. Except for one thing. If she was brave enough to take that first step, and I was brave enough to let her, there wouldn’t be an end. I knew the trail we walked together would be a hard one, but I wouldn’t ever leave her alone on it.”

Garth Black’s story was the one that I have been waiting for in this series. With Rowen and Jesse perfectly in love and off in Seattle planning their wedding, Garth is still in Montana and so is Josie. Together they will have to face their past, present, and future. They will have to face tragedy and heartbreak and if they are still standing on the other side, decide if their love for one another is enough.

I absolutely adore Garth Black. Except for a couple of appearances, this book lacked our golden boy Jesse and his deep “Jesse-isms”, but instead we get Garth, and I’ll take the rough around the edges, bad-boy bull rider any day. Jesse’s deep thoughts are replaced by Garth’s dark, sardonic humor, just one of the ways he deals with his tragic and abusive past. Along with whiskey, women, and fighting, Garth also deals with his past and self-loathing by pushing people away, specifically Josie, the one person with power to break down his walls. Their relationship is a tumultuous emotional roller-coaster, a constant push and pull; just when things start to go smoothly for them, all hell breaks loose. It was so clear to me that they were perfect for each other, they complemented each other so well. I cried and gritted my teeth as they fought hard to find that out for themselves. As Garth faces his own demons, Josie must face everyone around her thinks Garth isn’t good enough. They are both such strong characters, stubborn, proud and protective, and that protectiveness may tear them apart.

” ‘The only reason I paint you as the misunderstood good guy is because that’s who you are. You’re the guy who shows up on his friend’s doorstep in the middle of the night if they call. You’re the guy who is one of the first guys at work in the morning and one of the last to leave. You’re the guy who played Cupid when his best friend almost lost the woman he loved. You’re the guy who would give your kidney to a homeless three-legged dog if it needed one. You’re that guy, Garth. You know it. And I’ve known it for a hell of a lot longer.’ “

Garth and Josie’s story is heartbreaking and funny, intense and emotional. As always, Williams creates palpable connections between her characters, complemented by witty dialogue, heartfelt romance, a hint of sexiness, just enough darkness and those profound moments that make the reader believe in friendship and hope and love and happily-ever-afters.

” ‘Who we choose to love, and who chooses us has nothing to do with being deserving or undeserving. It has to do with who you simply have to love and who simply has to love you.’ “

*I received a complimentary copy of the book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Author Guest, Book Review, and #Giveaway: TIE ME FREE (Satin Rose Experience #4) by Sandra Bunino (@SandraBunino)

September 21, 2013 Adult, BDSM, Book Review, Erotic Romance, Favorite Books, Guest Post, Novella/Short Story, Past Giveaways 6

Welcome to Tie Me Free Book Tour! I’m super excited to share this new book today AND Sandra Bunino is HERE, sharing a fantastic “off camera” scene with the Mason, the sexy man of the hour! I started reading the Satin Rose Experience series about a year ago… and fell hard and fast. A devoted fan ever since, I’m always eagerly awaiting each new installment in this romantic, sensual, and HOT BDSM themed series. Enough about me… let’s get to our guest of honor!

Welcome to Tattooed Book Review, Sandra! It’s always such a pleasure to have you here. 🙂

Thanks for having me today, Gillian! I love visiting your virtual home at Tattooed Book Review! I wanted to do something a little special for your readers and you today. <3 <3 <3

This “off camera” scene gives readers a glimpse at the start of Mason’s love of older women and his desire to dominate.

Here’s a little background first:

Mason grew up poor and lonely in an orphanage in Dublin, Ireland. His last words to his mother were promises to do well in school and move to America. His hard work paid off and he earned a full scholarship to New York’s Columbia University. His quiet, brooding nature, not to mention his great looks and Irish accent, attracted the attention of Rachel Forrey, his forty-something , recently widowed, art history professor.

In this scene Professor Forrey asks Mason to stay after class…

Mason stayed seated at his table near the back of the class as the students filed out of the room. The note Professor Forrey discreetly left on his desk, which he unfolded, read, and refolded every few minutes during the session, remained tucked into his jeans pocket. His eyes flicked to Professor Forrey as the last student left the room. She stood from her perch at the corner of her desk and walked to the door, closing it was a click.

Swiveling on her heels, her straight honey tinted hair skimmed over her shoulders as she turned to face Mason. “Do you know why I asked you to stay, Mr. Myers?”

“Was there a problem with my research paper?” He cocked an eyebrow.

She chuckled softly and strode to the window. “I’ve always loved New York in the fall. My late husband and I used to walk through Central Park every weekend to watch the leaves change. I’ve been very lonely since he’s been gone.”

The metal feet of his chair slid across the floor, grinding against hard surface as he rose to his feet. “I’m sorry about your husband. I know what it’s like to have lost someone close.” He walked to the window and stopped behind her. Leisurely, his gaze washed over her creamy blouse and black skirt, which hugged her curves, leaving little to his imagination.

She nodded. “Did you know you can see Central Park from here? Come closer.” She took his hand and guided his index finger to the corner of the window. “See? Right there.” Her breath blew warm and sweet on his neck.

“Professor Forrey,” he said in a husky voice. His hands itched to touch her.

“It’s Rachel. Just Rachel.” Her finger trailed up his arm and cupped his cheek. “We have a lot in common, Mason, and there are many things I can teach you.”

Mason encircled her wrist with his index finger and thumb, spun her around and pinned her back against the window. Their breath intermingled as he stared into her icy blue eyes full of challenge and excitement.

“I may have something to teach you, Professor.”

by Sandra Bunino

Release date: September 12, 2013

From Evernight Publishing

She’s forty and vanilla…he’s twenty-eight and…not.

Score one for Kate Angel. She’s just signed the hottest erotica author to her start up publishing house, Angel Books, but she needs a crash course in kink to appease her demanding client. Creating a Domsublife.com profile seems like an innocent way to do her homework and satisfy her curiosity.

Mason Myers has lived a lifetime in his twenty-eight years. The product of an Irish orphanage, he grew up fast to overcome his lonely, humble beginnings to become the successful businessman he is today. He’s also an experienced Dom at the Satin Rose Experience, an elite BDSM club in New York City.

A mutual appreciation for modern art establishes their online connection. Mason convinces Kate to meet him at the Guggenheim museum’s erotica exhibit where she reveals her fascination in the art of rope bondage, known as Shibari. Introducing her to the ancient art within the safety of the club, Mason helps Kate surrender her deep-seated hang-ups about her age and body image.

As the physical and emotional ties that bind her into the submissive of his fantasies tighten, can Kate learn to break the emotional tethers ruling her life and embrace the freedoms they bestow?

My Review

My Rating: 5 Stars

“…’Remember, you’re in a safe place, just let yourself go and enjoy the journey. You deserve it.’ “

Once again, this author does not disappoint. This installment of the Satin Rose Experience explores the ancient and beautiful art of Shibari. The story is romantic, sensual, and tinged with a burning sexual desire. The reader shares Kate’s transformation from BDSM newbie to empowered submissive, led on her journey by the achingly sexy Dom, Mason.

I adore Kate’s character in this story. She’s sassy and successful, and despite her insecure misgivings about her body, has an air of confidence about her. Even when Mason pegs her submissive tendencies, she refuses to give in right away. Her reluctance to experiment in BDSM gives the story a lovely, slow burn. The attraction between Kate and Mason is evident, strengthening throughout the course of the story, until the outcome becomes clear: all or nothing.

The result of all the build-up is a beautifully sensual BDSM sex scene, focusing on bondage, Shibari in particular. The author artfully portrays the visual and sensual beauty of the bondage, as well as the intense emotions and sexual chemistry of the characters. It’s an amazingly hot sex scene, especially for one that doesn’t involve a lot of actual “sex”.

Tie Me Free is a novella, perfect for a single, sexy sitting. The fourth book in the series, it certainly lived up to the other stories I have enjoyed so much, and I’m always looking forward to the next book in this series. I leave you, dear reader, with a little tidbit from this story that brought tears to my eyes:

“Kate had never been spiritual, but something powerful came over her and she finally understood his statements about BDSM: the lifestyle is not about ropes and knots, paddles and whips, leather and chains, it’s all about the emotional experience which binds two people.

Book Description:

When it turns out your ex was actually a sexy demon sent by the devil to seduce you to evil, you’d think the next guy, no matter what he’s like, couldn’t be a worse decision. Enter Father Marc Angeletti, a smooth talking piece of forbidden fruit with onyx eyes and a razor wit, and Riona Dade may as well start packing her luggage for damnation now. But come Hell or… well, Hell, Marc, Riona, and demigod Dee Zitka have a mission: serve as a Pure Soul and vanquish Lucifer’s minion scum from the face of the Earth to protect humanity from evil.

Oh, and don’t get seduced into sin yourself, because a fallen Pure Soul is one of Lucifer’s biggest thrills. As long as Riona and Marc can keep things professional and north of the sheets, no problem, right?

Yeah, that worked out great in the Thornbirds, too…

Excerpt

The donuts weren’t the only things with holes. Though invisible to the naked eye, Riona and Marc had a matching pair in their heads.

“What the Jim Dandy f- were you thinking?”

Dee struggled with his volume amid the gaggle of middle-of-the-night patrons at Donuts DeJour. Not that he thought any of them gave a damn about anything he was saying. And frankly, a handful of them were suspicious, dark world wash-ups anyways. Failed demons really enjoyed a midnight crueller, from what he heard.

Riona’s expression wore “f-you” like it was the latest thing off the Paris runway. “It was the charm, Dee. You honestly believe someone as green as I could stand up to something Asmodeus himself was dishing out? The demon has been heating things up since the Ice Age.”

“Oh, I’m sorry,” Dee said sweetly. “I didn’t realize you only signed up to fight middle-management evil.” With a blink, the scowl returned to his face. He focused his attention on Marc. “And you, Father Feely. I thought we had this all sorted out with our little powwow the other night? Do you not truly grasp that you were within six inches of damning yourself to Hell and becoming a demon?”

Marc remained nonplussed. Without looking so much as concerned, he pulled a white mug of caffeine sludge to his lips, and rattled off, “About nine inches, actually,” before drawing a sip.

The coffee never reached his mouth. It became a Jackson Pollack-inspired masterpiece on the wall adjacent the table at which they sat.

Dee leapt to his feet, his chair demonstrating the principle of Newton’s first law of motion as he lunged forward and plunged his fist down on the tiled tabletop, cracking it straight down the middle.

“Is this all a joke to you?” he bellowed, drawing Marc and Riona’s gazes back from the mug’s final resting place. “What part of ‘damned for all eternity and serving the dark side as its demon minion’ don’t you get? Yes, someone like Asmodeus is about as hard as they come. You still kicked his ass back to Hell, Riona. Barely. If you’d been ‘distracted’ a minute more, who knows though? You both have got to get a hold of yourselves before things go too far. I refuse to stand by and watch another person I care for get killed for something as silly as love.”

Now it was Riona’s turn to spring. “Jesus H. Christ, I am not in love with the priest here. I don’t know where the hell you and Ramiel get these ideas.”

“Ramiel?” Marc blinked violently several times. “You’re talking to Ramiel about us?”

Dee didn’t miss that dangerous two-lettered word. “Us?”

The witch slashed her hand through the air like a ninja using flies for target practice. “No, there is no us. Marc and I are not a thing. It only came up because Ramiel kept hinting that I have some destined love that’s supposed to shake the cosmos, or start an apocalypse, or melt the polar ice caps, or something. I think he was warning me not to be distracted,” she whipped in Marc’s direction, “by screwing you.”

“Why do I feel like you’re trying to make this my fault?” the priest shot back. “I backed off. I tried to stop. You’re the one who decided to act like a kitty that wanted to climb my tree.”

The witch blanched. “How dare you?”

By this time, even the transient who’d been having a three-way conversation with himself had paused and was watching the trio with utter confusion. Dee, noticing their audience, leaned in over the remaining half of the table and pushed the red-faced Riona back into her seat. Her attempt to resist stood no chance against Dee’s demigod strength.

Narrowing his gaze on the reticent couple, he yelled through a whisper, “It doesn’t matter whose fault it is. You’re both on the hook if something happens; Marc for obvious reasons, and you because you would never subject someone to Hell, if given the choice. That’s it, I don’t see another solution. You two are not allowed to be alone anymore.”

“Seriously?” Riona barked.

“Chaperoned visits only from now on, preferably with Ramiel or me,” Dee confirmed. “It’s as much for your own good, as well as for our mission. I know I’m pretty damned talented, but I can’t fight evil on my own.”

“You’re right.” Brow furrowed, Marc nodded solemnly. “You’re right, indeed.”

But Riona didn’t like the looks of that bandwagon. “Oh. My. God. I am an adult and perfectly capable of putting a kibosh on my own behavior. I do not need to be chaperoned like this is some goddamn reenactment of Victorian courtship.”

Marc turned to Riona, taking her hands in his. The witch dashed a look at him in confusion, trying to figure out from his expression why he would do something so traitorous to their claims. It was when the saccharine words began to fall from his lips that she understood.

“My child, we all fall prey to Satan’s snares from time to time, and acquiesce our better judgment to the darkness. There is no sin in being human, the only sin is failing to strive for purity when we realize the error of our ways.”

She ripped her hand away as if Marc’s palms were a hot stovetop. “Don’t pull the compassionate clergy routine on me, Father. I am not one of your parishioners, and if I recall correctly, your error was about to make a beeline straight for my purity.”

My Review

My Rating: 5 Stars!

“She wanted. She wanted so much she couldn’t have. A haven. Raw sex. Understanding. Wildness. She had no idea what this was, if she was really here, if he existed, if there were one or two of her or him. She didn’t think about the interrogation room or Grey Man. Lara simply didn’t care. At this moment, she felt instinctively safe in the arms of the man who claimed her lips with ruthless passion.”

Dark and captivating, with a story and characters that get under your skin, and a reality intermingled with dreams and frightening nightmares, Dangerous Dreams is the start to what is sure to become one of my favorite series. Violence and political intrigue lurk in the shadows of an intense romance forged by an undeniable and mysterious connection between two Dreamrunners, or humans with a special ability to leave their bodies and travel instantly to distant places. Lara does not know that she is special, and Jack must save her from those that will torture and even kill her for her gift.

The story is fast-paced and filled with action and surprising plot twists. The author does an excellent job of weaving important information about the Dreamrunners in to the flow of the story. Facts are revealed in perfect timing with the action, just enough to make sense, but never too much to be overwhelming. The ins and outs of being a Dreamrunner could become complicated or confusing, but it’s a seamless part of the story.

I could not put this book down. Lara and Jack’s mysterious connection is filled with heat and passion, and I was instantly engaged in their story, desperate for them to find and save each other. They offer each other a safe place, a connection the neither have ever had with another person. It is clear that their story is just beginning; that they will need all of the strength that they have shown and more to survive what is to come. I am hopelessly invested in this couple and and desperate to read more of their story and continue the story of The Society, Dreamrunners, and the Lost Ones.

“They would live or they would die, but they would do it together.”

Excerpt

Lara opened her eyes and found herself standing at the foot of a bed with a rust-colored spread. She recognized this place immediately as the room, the one in the photograph they’d shown her. Pain radiated up her right arm to her chest from the last touch of the electrodes, reminding her what would happen if she didn’t obey.

How had she gotten here? Was this yet another dream? A hallucination? All of it looked so real, felt real, like she was really here. Why would they want her to dream about this room?

“You see the window?” someone said to her.

Lara started nervously, the voice rattling her. It sounded as if he was inches from her ear, but when she turned her head to look, no one was there.

She heard another noise, so slight she thought she might have imagined it. She glanced toward the room’s bed.

Someone was watching her. A man.

She cried out in surprise, or tried to, but nothing came out of her mouth. Her voice didn’t exist here.

From a prone position, head on a pillow, he bolted upright to a sitting position. His hand shot toward the nightstand. Lara saw a gun there and shrank back in fear, but when he reached for it, he couldn’t grasp or pick up the firearm.

He tried again, but could not lift it free.

Frustrated, he turned back toward her. He was in the darkest part of the room and she couldn’t make out his features.

“The window,” Grey Man’s disembodied voice hissed in her ear. “Go to the window.”

Lara was in a near fugue state, her mind overwhelmed. She didn’t know where she was. Was she here in this place that seemed so real? Or back in the cell with Grey Man? She didn’t feel right. She didn’t feel real. Panic ignited along her spine, telling her she was about to die. It stripped away any coherent thought.

Please. She didn’t know what she begged for, only that she begged.

“Go. To. The. Window.”

Lara started to obey.

“Stop!” the man on the bed shouted. He leapt to his feet, but didn’t come closer. “Don’t move,” he ordered.

Deep, rumbling, his voice startled her. She froze in place, apparently willing to take orders from anyone now.

“Not a muscle,” the man said. “I’m deadly serious. What you’re doing, you’re not doing it right. You’ve put yourself in danger by coming here like this.”

He took another step forward, edging into the golden light.

It’s him.

The man she’d hallucinated in her bedroom.

He’s real?

Like the first time she’d seen him, he wore jeans and nothing else, the ripple of toned abs on display as he stalked toward her. She’d glimpsed only a little of his face the first time, but she saw the same panther-black hair and granite set to his jaw. Only this time she noticed that one of his cheeks, the left one, wasn’t quite right, the bones slightly out of alignment with the rest of his face. It didn’t look entirely natural. Had he been in an accident? His cheekbone shattered some time in the past?

His dark eyes remained in shadow, refusing to tell her whether or not she could trust him. The glow she’d seen around him in her bedroom was still there, reflecting off his smoothly muscled chest.

Pain shot through Lara. Back in the cell, where they kept her body, Grey Man used the car battery again. Her muscles and joints contracted, convulsed, the fire of electricity burning its way up her arm, reaching for her brain. Her heart stopped. She couldn’t breathe.

“The window, Lara,” Grey Man said. “Or this continues.”

She started toward the rust-colored drapes.

“No!”

The man with black hair vaulted over the bed and suddenly blocked her way. He put a hand up to gesture for her to stop, but didn’t touch her.

“Your body isn’t stable,” he said. “I know you probably don’t know what I’m talking about, but every step you take while you’re like this has the potential to kill you. You can’t touch anything here.”

Though taller than most women, Lara was forced to look up into his face. Their eyes met, and as had happened in her bedroom, recognition clicked. She knew him. She’d found him without ever having known she was looking. He was really there. Standing in front of her.

“I’m not going to hurt you,” he said. “I want to help you.”

Joy soared through her for the briefest fraction of a second.

“An evil man lives in that room,” Grey Man whispered in her ear. “A terrorist. You’re there to find out his location, where he’s hiding.”
