My Review:

My Rating: 3.5 Stars

Death of a Waterfall is a good start to what I think will be a very compelling series.

The plotline is compelling: twisty and turny with plenty of suspense. It unravels smoothly if a bit slowly; as the pieces came together, I was completely drawn in. I had to keep turning the pages to find out what would happen next with Teghan, Donnie, and their group of friends.

Unfortunately, though it isn’t a deal-breaker, I just couldn’t form a strong emotional connection with these characters.  There is chemistry between Teghan and Donnie, but something is missing. The only character I was able to really feel anything for was Teghan’s father, Rob. His absolutely horrible actions made me hate him with a fiery passion. Towards the end of the book, as we really get in to the story, there are some very intense moments that I should have felt more strongly about, but just didn’t.

The verdict: this is a solid start to a series. The reader is introduced to the characters and the groundwork is laid for what has the potential to be a very thrilling and intriguing new series. The pieces are all there, and perhaps they will fit together more solidly in the next book.  Am I attached to these characters? Not really. Would I read the next book in the series to find out what happens next? Absolutely.

“‘I’d do anything for you, Teghan. Don’t ever forget that.” He brought her mouth to him and kissed her softly. In that moment, he vowed to do anything and everything in his power to show her just how far he was willing to go for her.”

She looked at him, at the remorse in his eyes, at the bruises on his face, and at the sadness pulling on his lips. Teghan tossed her clothes and makeup to the floor. Taking his face into her hands, she gently kissed his bruised cheek before making her way to his mouth. Her kiss was soft at first, and then became harder, demanding. It was a greedy kiss, ripe with passion that left her hungry for more. She kept her lips on his as she adjusted her position on his lap and straddled him.

“Teghan.” He groaned with pleasure as he began to work the buttons on her blouse.

Her breath hitched when he guided her shirt from her shoulders. He wrapped one arm around her waist, holding her on his lap as he fumbled to unhook her bra with one hand. “Here.” Teghan reached behind her back. “Let me help.” Donnie cupped her breast in his hand before taking it into his mouth. His tongue raked over her nipple, coaxing it into a tight, hard peak. Teghan arched toward him, her head falling to her shoulders. The feel of his hot mouth on her lit a fire deep in her that raged with each flick of his tongue. She ran her fingers through his hair and held him to her. She bit her bottom lip. “Mmmm,” she moaned. God, why hadn’t she let this happen sooner?

Title: Shattered

Author: CC Brown

Hosted by : The Little Black Book Blog

When it rains it pours….

Hard-nosed and self-reliant Dallis O’Brien has had her fair share of devastation. Her father’s tragic accident sparked what seemed like a domino effect of heartbreak and loss. Unable to shake the fear of enduring any more pain, she builds walls around her heart, hoping to heal on her own.

Dallis’ road to recovery is disrupted when she meets Grayson Rivera, a tattooed, coffee shop owner who, by appearances alone, isn’t her typical match. Stubborn and hesitant to let him in, Dallis finally succumbs to Grayson’s persistence, where he challenges her to face her loss while also having the walls of her heart broken down.

With Grayson’s assistance, Dallis must decide if she is willing to learn how to be weak in order to be strong.

My Review:

My Rating: 4 Stars

Shattered is an emotional journey towards healing, with captivating characters, a thoughtful romance, and an engaging story.

I rarely reference other reviews in my own but there seems to be so much conflict in the way readers feel about Dallis. I certainly respect everyone’s opinions; I just want to throw mine in there. So many people seem to dislike Dallis. Dallis is damaged, a shell. But it’s not her fault; both of her parents died tragically, at a time when she still hasn’t figured out who she is or what she really wants out of life. I suppose she could be seen as cold and bitchy, but I just didn’t see her that way. I admired her strength and determination to move on with her life. I completely understood why she dealt with Colby the way she did; she needed to stand on her own two feet and not depend on his money. Yes, she’s very flawed, broken even. But personally, I found her character relatable and honest. (And for the record: I hated Colby, the pompous ass. I wanted him gone.)

Enter Grayson. I’m a sucker for tattoos and blue eyes. I get all fuzzy and and can’t think straight. Fortunately, Dallis is more guarded than I am. She takes more time and convincing, leading to a well paced romance that takes time and thought to build and develop. There was an underlying heat and chemistry but the connection was forged on real emotion and the result is a very real romance, real healing, a real story, and a real ending; no cliffhangers here, folks 🙂

About the Author:

Just a book reading, writing loving, mommy and USMC wife! 🙂

I love to write, even if it isn’t what is conventional and makes everyone feel giddy inside. I usually pull from dreams, or ideas that just thrust themselves into my head. I have what some would describe as a dry sense of humor, and I think its conveyed in my writing. I like to think I am a kick ass chick, but I can also be sensitive. I’m learning to grow thick skin, and in this field, it is definitely needed!

I won’t put anything out that I am not absolutely proud of, but like E.L. James said, “I can’t own people’s reactions to it.” Thanks for reading my work… I do appreciate it!

Title: Unbreak Me

Author: Lexi Ryan

Release Date: May 27, 2013

My Rating: 5 Stars

About the Book:

“If you’re broken, I’ll fix you…”

I’m only twenty-one and already damaged goods. A slut. A failure. A disappointment to my picture-perfect family as long as I can remember. I called off my wedding to William Bailey, the only man who thought I was worth fixing. A year later, he’s marrying my sister. Unless I ask him not to…

“If you shatter, I’ll find you…”

But now there’s Asher Logan, a broken man who sees the fractures in my façade and doesn’t want to fix me at all. Asher wants me to stop hiding, to stop pretending. Asher wants to break down my walls. But that means letting him see my ugly secrets and forgiving him for his.

With my past weighing down on me, do I want the man who holds me together or the man who gives me permission to break?

Unbreak Me

My Review:

I truly enjoyed this book: one of those reads where my fiancé walks in on me reading and jokes, “I hope Amazon will replace that Kindle for water damage…” It’s not that it’s an overly emotional tear-jerker, but that the characters are so real, and their emotions so palpable, that I couldn’t help but become emotionally involved.

When Maggie Thompson returns to the tiny midwestern town she grew up in, it’s with a determination to become the ‘New Maggie’, to abandon a broken past and the emotional damage and instability that follows her like a dark cloud. However, with constant reminders of her haunted past around every corner, and dark secrets she keeps hidden inside, finding a way towards a new life and a brighter future seems impossible. I felt so strongly for Maggie’s character. She is burdened with a past she didn’t deserve, secrets too deep for someone so young, and some serious self-loating and emotional baggage. She puts up a shield, keeping everyone out, using her sexuality and reputation to push away anyone who may actually care for her.

“I don’t want her to shut me out tonight, so I turn to her and out my hands agains the car, pinning her in.

Her eyes change in an instant. The sorrow fades, swallowed up into that part of her that holds the rest of her secrets. Just as quickly, awareness flashes in its place. Her eyes turn hot.

I want her. Want to hold her. Want to feel her. Want to get inside and see what she is so desperate to protect. And I know the last is what she’ll resist the most, but I’ll start here.”

Enter Asher Logan, the rich, mysterious former rockstar with a dark past of his own. He sees Maggie’s beauty and intense sexuality, but also the broken girl behind the facade. As he courts her, he slowly breaks down her walls, piece by piece. He accepts her for who she is, and helps her to find a way towards becoming a stronger person, all while his feelings for her intensify. He treats her with such protectiveness and understanding, but never becomes a weak character. His presence is always strong, sexy, dominant, occasionally jealous, and totally HOT.

“He rubs the inside of my plan. Soft. Gentle. This man may look rough with his tattoos and piercings, but there is nothing rough about the way he treats me. And, where the violence that flashed in his eyes didn’t scare me, this gentleness does.”

If I had to choose one word to describe Maggie and Asher’s journey, it would be intense. Intense emotion, intense sexual chemistry, intense pain. The type of intensity that occurs when two people meet, the course of their lives is forever altered, and everything that happened before just doesn’t seem that important any more, now that the future seems to have so much possibility…

“We find our rhythm like that. Asher never taking his eyes form mine as he moves with me under the light of the waxing moon. Me, flooded with emotion spilling from my newly wakened heart.

Because I’m not a virgin. And I’m not in love. But this is all new to me. Here With Asher in the moonlight, rough and hungry and dangerous. Exposed. This is making love.”

Overall, I enjoyed this book immensely. A story of dark, secretive, complicated pasts and the potential for healing and redemption that only comes from truth. A story about those who are lucky enough to be loved, even when they can’t find any love within themselves. The characters are multi-dimensional, flawed, and relatable. The story-telling is beautiful and engrossing, with seamless changes to multiple POV’s, plenty of angst and drama, and well-timed revelations of secrets and twists. Though there was a time when it seemed all was lost, but I was rewarded with an extremely satisfying, heartfelt conclusion.

My Review:

My Rating: 3.5 Stars

A solid debut, a story that many readers will enjoy, especially fans of the complicated love triangle.

Angst, emotion, and drama permeate the pages of this book. Aly is faced with an extremely difficult decision. The man she has desired for sometime has finally fallen for her, but betrays her in a horrible way. She still has feelings for him but has also developed feelings for her handsome and steadfast best friend. We follow Aly as she navigates tumultuous emotional waters on her way to making her choice: a difficult love triangle and a difficult choice. I am nearly always a fan of the bad boy, the dangerous choice. But in this instance, I surprised myself and fell for the best friend.

I particularly enjoyed the philanthropic aspects of the plot. Apart from the drama of the love triangle, there is a great story there all on its own. Despite the struggles in their personal lives, the characters share a common goal of helping the less fortunate.

The story has some great moments: there’s moments of humor, warmth, and tenderness, moments of intense emotion, a shocking “h*** s**t” moment, and some very steamy scenes. I was definitely intrigued. There were times that the dialogue was a bit stilted and Aly’s character, though real and relatable, wasn’t my favorite. Overall, Distorted is a good read, an angsty love story with a satisfying finish.

“I traced my hand along his cheek, and saw the love burning in his hazel eyes. I had no doubt he meant what he said and I was upset with myself for not being  able to give him what he wanted, yet. When I was around him, the electricity was so intense, so magnetic. I owed it to myself to figure out who exactly it was I wanted. The problem was, how long would that take?”

*I received a complimentary copy of the book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Paul’s green eyes were burning into mine. I could feel the electricity from his gaze shoot straight to my core. He began kissing my hand again, brushing his lips along my knuckles. Once his lips reached the divot between my index finger and thumb, his lips parted. Very gently he ran his tongue along the surface. My body heated and my heart beat grew rapid. His lips parted into a smile, knowing the affect he had on me. I stood there powerless as this man gave me the most intimate kiss without ever touching my lips.

His tongue glided around my wrist, then he stopped to suck on a few places.  I grew warm all over and closed my eyes, unable to stop myself from loving what he was doing.  He continued up my arm, looking at me the whole time.  When he got to the start of my sleeve, he bit down on it and moved it up to my shoulder, trying a few times until it finally stayed.  He went back to where he was and started kissing up my arm again.  He stopped as he got close to my shoulder and swirled his tongue around my skin.  Fire completely erupted inside of me and I let out a moan.  This was the sexiest moment I’d ever experienced and I knew if he tried to do more, I wouldn’t stop him.

He reached the top of my shoulder, sliding his tongue along the top of my bra strap until my shirt stopped his access.  He detoured to my neck and started dropping light kisses there as I felt his hands go to my waist and pull me close.  His lips were warm against my neck and when I felt his tongue start tracing my ear lobe, I visibly shuddered.

He smiled against me. “Ah, Aly. You don’t know what you do to me,” he whispered, his hot breath brushing against my ear.  I grasped his arms; I could no longer hold myself up on my own. He was slowly but breaking down the strong barrier I had built around my heart.

He lightly bit my earlobe as his lips traveled to my face, traveling down my jaw line.  My hands moved to his shoulders and he pulled me harder against him, slamming me against his chest.  I gasped at the contact and when his lips met mine, I didn’t push him away. Instead, I pushed his head toward me more.

We stood there kissing like our lives depended on it, hardly taking a breath.  I hadn’t realized how much I’d missed him, missed this.  Even though I’d barely had a taste of what being with him was like, I’d had enough to know I liked it, and always wanted more.

Author Guest, Excerpt and My #Review: BELLA KEY by Scarlet Chastain

May 17, 2013 Adult, Book Review, Contemporary Romance, Erotic Romance, Guest Post 0

I am so, so excited to share Bella Key with you! I’m even more excited that author Scarlet Chastain is here today to share with us why she writes F/F romance “for women, about women”. I love a sexy alpha male and a book boyfriend as much as the next girl. But, I love my book girlfriends, too! Don’t forget to read my review and an excerpt from the book…

Take it away, Scarlet…

Sizzling romance for women, about women…

This is the tagline I chose for my new pseudonym, Scarlet Chastain. You see, I also write M/F under Sandra Bunino where the first part of the phrase fits perfectly. Sandra writes oh-so-sexy Alpha heroes who sweep their heroines off their feet. I’ve covered delicious Doms in my Satin Rose Experience series. Men like club owner, Asher Cane, CIA agent, Jackson Reid, and motorcycle riding Wall Street wizard, Braxton Malone, know exactly what they want and stop at nothing to get it. I love these types of men and enjoy writing their journey to an explosive HEA.

Scarlet’s stories are a little, well, different. That’s where the “about women” comes into play. One look at my cover will tell you Scarlet Chastain writes female/female erotic romance. Whoa. Really?

Yes. Really. I’m proud to be a fan of F/F. However, while quality M/F, menage and M/M erotic romances are easy to find. F/F fans have to dig to find lesbian stories with well developed characters and a great story. Much of this sub-genre is filled with books heavy on the sex and light on the story. I can’t help but think of those books as being geared toward the male reader.

Men and women follow the same four stages of sexual arousal; excitement, plateau, orgasm, and resolution but we get there in different ways. Men tend to react to physical cues and experience sexual desire more spontaneously. Women, on the other hand, tend to react to their circumstances. That’s why there’s a direct correlation between the quality of a woman’s relationship with her partner and her feelings of sexual attraction. We understand each other on a deeper level.

That deeper level is what prompted me to write F/F. I love exploring those additional layers of emotion unique to a female/female relationship. However, I can’t stress enough that Bella Key is first and foremost a love story. It just happens the main characters are both women.

So whether you read F/F, are F/F-curious, or just enjoy a heartfelt love story, check out Bella Key. Who knows? You just may find a new sub-genre to love!

About the Book:

Maddie Jacobs must be crazy. At least that’s what her mother thinks. Professionally, she’s confident and secure; personally, she’s a hot mess. Not even a marriage proposal from a man who adores her can quell her search for something more

In need of an escape, Maddie flees to Key West’s most southern island, Bella Key, to rest and recharge at Casa Bonita. She almost gives up on weekend retreat when the Bed & Breakfast is closed for repairs until Sunny Rojas, the inn owner, extends an offer of friendship, sweet tea and a room. Still reeling from a breakup with her longtime partner, Sunny is thankful for the diversion from her own broken heart.

The arrival of a fierce storm forces the women’s emotional journey to a head and leads them into each other’s arms. But can Maddie throw her hangups to the wind and go with her heart? The magic of Bella Key teaches her that passion cannot be placed neatly into boxes labeled right and wrong, because love knows no boundaries

My Review:

My Rating: 5 Stars

A quick, easy, and breezy read, Bella Key is a warm, sexy, emotional, and heartfelt romance. When Maddie takes a quickie vacation to Bella Key, she has no idea that her life is about to change forever, and her secret fantasies are about to come true.

Chastain does a beautiful job of creating the chemistry between two women. There’s an easy friendship and connection, tinged with plenty of sexual longing and desire. It isn’t long before Maddie and Sunny act on their growing feelings for one another, resulting in beautifully written, sensual and passionate love scenes.

The story itself is entertaining and engaging, with a dash of humor, plenty of romance, and just enough conflict: brought on by Maddie’s questioning of her own desires and sexual identity. The setting is beautiful and magical, a place where people go to find contentment and their true selves. People like famous romance author Jules Quigley, whose character I absolutely adore, and just so happens to hold the key to Sunny and Maddie’s future. A lovely HEA tops off a story to be enjoyed by all romance fans.

” ‘Feelings and emotions can’t always be placed neatly in little boxes. Straight and gay are simply labels we place upon ourselves. Happiness is what we all strive for. Open your mind to what and who makes you happy.’ “

*I received a complimentary copy of the book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

“Good shower?”

Maddie stopped in the doorway, holding the knot of her towel to her chest. Wet strands of hair produced rivulets of water streaming down her shoulders and chest. “Like a new woman. Although, my northern skin can’t handle the tropical sun. Look at my shoulders!” Sunny’s gaze moved from one shoulder to another. Maddie was right, she was more than sun-kissed. Her shoulders practically glowed. “Oh, chica. That’s an angry burn you have there. I have some aloe —” Sunny picked up and put down five different bottles from her dressing table. “—ah, here it is. This’ll ease the pain and cut down on the peeling, too.”

Sunny flipped the top and squeezed a quarter-sized dab of the green gel into her palm. She nodded toward her bed, signaling Maddie to sit. Rubbing the aloe between her palms, she rested one knee on the bed beside her. Maddie gathered her wet hair and flipped it over her shoulder to allow Sunny access to the other. Her body shivered under Sunny’s hands.

“Sorry, this stuff’s cold. I tried to warm it up a little.”

Maddie closed her eyes and tilted her head to the side. “It’s not that. It feels good on the burn. You have a gentle touch.”

Sunny chuckled. “Scooch over a little so I can get your other side.”

Maddie shifted, lifting her feet onto the bed and tucking them under her legs Indian style. Sunny guided her head forward and massaged the aloe along the base of her neck to her shoulder blades, and down to the edge of the fluffy towel. She bent her knee, providing an anchor for Maddie to lean upon. Her inner thighs grazed the thick towel. Sunny closed her eyes and focused not only on Maddie’s sunburned skin, but also on loosening the muscles along her shoulders and upper back.

“I have a confession to make,” Maddie said quietly.

“Other than this is the best massage you’ve ever received?” Sunny snorted.

“Mmm. That too. I-I watched you last night.” Maddie went a few seconds without taking a breath.

Sunny didn’t waver. “I know you did. You were outside of my door.”

“You knew? Why didn’t you stop or say something?” Maddie kept her eyes closed but turned her head toward Sunny as she spoke.

Sunny added another dab of aloe to her palm. “I liked that you were watching me. It turned me on that you enjoyed it too.”

“Never in my life had I thought I’d be attracted, you know, sexually to a woman. It’s different with you. Many things are different with you.” Maddie’s hand trembled as she touched Sunny’s leg, tracing an imaginary line up and down her calf. The rapid rise and fall of Maddie’s back matched the pounding in Sunny’s chest.

Silence filled the room. Sunny had decided against bringing up the episode from the night before unless Maddie did. Now that it was out in the open, Sunny could find out how Maddie felt for sure. “Different, how?”

“You make me feel so focused and honest and alive. I’ve never had that with anyone else before.” Maddie turned and kneeled in front of Sunny. “Would it be forward if I asked you to kiss me?”

Sunny swallowed hard. “Yes, but I like forward,” she whispered as she cupped Maddie’s face with her palms. Dragging her thumb over Maddie’s bottom lip she realized how many times she wanted to taste her lips and explore her mouth over the past two days. Sunny lowered her face and brushed her lips once over Maddie’s. She drew back to study Maddie’s reaction.

“Again,” Maddie whispered, her eyes remained closed.

Capa A New Beginning

My Review:

My Rating: 4.5 Stars

WOW! What an emotional roller coaster! Trust took me for quite an amazing ride; I couldn’t put it down.

The story is beautifully told in such exquisite detail, I felt I was with the characters: Living in their amazing homes and traveling to luxurious European locations in a plush private jet. And yet, I did not feel alienated by the characters’ extreme wealth. They remained accessible, their tragedies, triumphs and emotions real, palpable, and relatable: it did not interfere with their humanity. Serruya shows that even the most privileged are not immune to darkness, loneliness, and despair.

As did nearly every man she comes in to contact with, I fell in love with Sophia. She’s brilliant, stylish, stunningly beautiful, and a survivor. I wanted nothing more for her to find love and happiness, and after struggling to end an abusive and controlling relationship with Ethan, I was thrilled when Alistair came in to the picture. I may be in love with Sophia, but I’m certainly in lust with the super-sexy Alistair: handsome, rugged, dark, and dominating with a rare but present soft side. Serruya creates absolutely explosive chemistry between Sophia and Alistair from the moment that they meet. Throughout the entire book, she writes scenes that are incredibly emotionally charged, and I was often left breathless and stunned. When Sophia and Alistair were alone together the first time, I thought I might pass out! Their respective pasts bring many conflicts to their relationship, further complicated by Alistair’s possessiveness and his desire for a submissive, a need which Sophia fears she can not fulfill.

This book has so many elements: completely engaging characters, sizzling romance, achingly intense sex scenes, plenty of drama, touching stories of  heart-breaking tragedy and loss, and a the chance for healing and redemption. Along with all of this is an intriguing plot that is just getting started; Sophia’s past is not gone and the journey is just beginning. I am anxiously awaiting the next chapter in this saga!

“The power she had over him: intoxicating, terrifying, and glorious. Instead of stopping him, she wrapped her arms around his neck and moved her breasts toward the scorching heat of his chest. She rubbed against him to quench a wild thirst she had never acknowledged before. She felt caught in the middle of a storm she couldn’t control. Alistair’s deep groan transmitted the longing he felt. Longing for her body, longing for her soul.”

Title: Marooned with the Millionaire

Author: Sandra Bunino

Publisher: Evernight Publishing

Release Date: April 9, 2013

Genre: Erotic Romance

My Rating: 5 Stars

About the Book:

“The chemistry between Stephanie and Jason is electric, white hot, and sensual. This story definitely delivers on all counts of romance and erotica.” ~ Liz, Fictional Candy

A fierce Miami storm bring sexy strangers together at The Hotel Del Santos for a night of desire.

Stephanie, still reeling from a failed marriage, needs a break from the past. Shying away from the convention center crowds while on a business trip, she finds solace tucked away in a secluded hotel on South Beach.

Jason, a wealthy Seattle builder, has the worst luck with love. He swears he will never allow another woman to get under his skin, until the clicking of a pair of sexy stilettos across the hotel lobby floor attracts his attention.

Cut off from the outside world, the lives of these two strangers collide and burn with desire when a storm strands them together. Neither wants anything more than a glorious one-night stand.

Their chemistry is undeniable and propels them to second meeting in Sin City. However, Stephanie soon learns she has more reason to be wary of her mysterious lover than a broken heart.

Previously published as Marooned in Miami and Lusted in Las Vegas. The novellas were combined and enhanced for Evernight Publishing.

My Review:

Decadent, escapist, beautifully romantic, and achingly sexy; a reading vacation that made me reluctant to go home.

From their very first meeting there is a sizzling and undeniable chemistry between Jason and Stephanie. They are a couple you root for, complementing each other so well, and each offering the other a chance to heal from damaging past relationships. Ghosts from their respective pasts crop up and threaten the budding romance, adding just enough drama and intrigue to keep the story interesting.

Bunino has an ability to create stunning backdrops to her stories, and this is no exception. From Miami to Vegas, she crafts richly opulent hotels and villas, the perfect settings for romance and always well-written and super-steamy erotica.

Complete with a satisfying happily ever after, this is a fabulous, sexy, and unforgettable book vacation.

“‘Stef, I know that you don’t do things like this. I’ll leave right now. Just say the word. But I assure you that is you want to continue down this path tonight, you will not regret it. Never for a moment will you regret it.’

Stephanie considered her options. Sure she could ask him to leave now, but the floodgates of a long-stifled passion were just opened, and she needed more, so much more. She was under the magic spell of Jason Royce.”

About the Book:

Jed Gentry is doing just fine, thank you very much, running his tattoo studio in Austin, Texas. So what if people think he’s a bit on the surly side? He’s been burned by his ex who sticks around to torture him and he lives with a family heartache that he’d rather not talk about. But he’s got a thriving business, his dream car, and good friends. Not much to complicate things. At least, not until she walked in…
Kyle O’Neill has had it with being the sheltered daddy’s girl at the family accounting firm and is ready to spread her wings and fly on her own for the first time. Unfortunately, it seems she’s about to fall flat on her face when her first and only client is – gulp — a tattoo artist! Her country club upbringing certainly hasn’t prepared her for this place or the sizzling attraction her traitorous body feels for the grumpy owner.
But there is a Divine conspiracy at work here pushing these two together. And they are hell bent on bucking the Heavenly plan all the way. Luckily, their angel is a true believer and pulls every trick he knows from under his halo to make this a match made in Heaven.
Who says God doesn’t have a sense of humor?

My Review:

A well-written, clever romance with a twist, Inked by an Angel reminds us that love exists in the unlikeliest places, and that we may need a “guardian angel” to help us find what was meant to be all along.

An unlikely romantic match for the conservative Kyle, Jed is the perfect tattoo artist “bad-boy”: all intimidating ink and piercings on the outside, sensitive artist on the inside. The author succeeds in showing his vulnerability, but never takes away the edge that makes him so sexy. The relationship slowly builds momentum, with plenty of up and down drama, to the point where I nearly cheered out loud when they finally arrived on the same page.

An easy read, with relatable characters, a touch of humor, and just enough heartache. I’m looking forward to reading more in this series!

My Review:

My Rating: 5 Stars

“She had two things he wanted very badly; her ability to save his family’s failing cattle ranch and a promise of a night he’d remember for years. Taking one would mean giving the other up, because he couldn’t have both. This wasn’t the type of a woman a man could fuck and then work with as if nothing had happened.”

SUPER HOT COWBOY ALERT! I loved this book. The story is engaging, the characters are great, and the sex is AMAZING.

From the moment they meet, sparks fly between Matt and Carolina. Susan Arden expertly creates incredible sexual tension that builds and builds until the characters (and the reader!) can barely stand it. When they finally give in, the sex is explosive and incredibly well-written. Some of the scenes literally took my breath away.

Matt is a fantastic hero: a handsome, chiseled, intelligent and sexy cowboy. A modern “caveman” type, he desires to possess Carolina completely, and when he does…. just WOW. Carolina possesses both strength and vulnerability, traits that make her a relatable and likable female lead.

“He took without asking, tearing down every wall she’d erected. The kiss continued on a path of destruction, her world fighting against his. Only when she whimpered and slumped against him, did he relinquish his power, turn raw greed into tenderness, and transform fire in soothing heat. He lifted her into his arms. “Tonight, baby, you’re completely mine. By the time we’re finished, we won’t be two separate people.”

Overall, this is a fantastic read. I enjoyed the story and setting of the cattle ranch, the interesting plot, and most of all, the connection between these two characters. The evolution of their relationship is a (smokin’ hot!) delight to read, and the HEA an added bonus 🙂

“This was madness. Matt drove her to the brink with his words and his body and she didn’t fight being out of control. This was more than a simple infatuation and girlhood flights of fancy. She didn’t need to think; it was in the absence of rational thought that he delivered her, into a place where she was free.”

My Review:

My Rating: 5+ Stars

Warm, emotional, and breathtakingly sexy, this book was not what I expected, in absolutely the best way possible.

I love when I pick up a book by an author that I have never read, and within the first few pages I know I’m going to enjoy the book. There is connection, a feeling of comfortable understanding with the author’s voice. For me, this was one of those books.

I had a feeling this book would be scorchingly hot (which it is), but what I did not expect was the deep level of emotion. I cried within the first few minutes. That’s not to say it’s an all out tear-jerker, but the author easily connects the reader with the characters’ deep emotions. Woods has an unfailing talent for seamlessly blending warmth, feeling, and a touch a humor with the extremely sexual. There is never a moment where it feels disjointed. In this book, she tackles difficult issues of relationships, family, trust, forgiveness, and love, and still delivers unique and beautifully written erotica.

I fell in love with the characters, especially Toby. Handsome, well-built, sensitive, funny and forceful and adventurous in the bedroom (and a few other locations): what’s not to love? He shows Esther such tenderness but completely possesses her sexually. HOT. I was devastated when it occurred to me that they might not actually be able to make it work: and I held out hope and held my breath until the very end.

I loved this book: the story, the sex, and the satisfying ending.

“Her thoughts drifted hazily-brief replays of the sights and sensations she’d just experienced mingled with the thoughts and emotions spiraling through her. I’m Yours, she’d said, and the truth had brought tears to her eyes. But she’d only said it in the passion of the moment. It was all part of the role she had been playing. Wasn’t it?”

He pulled her hard against him and crushed his mouth to hers. The full force of his passion washed over her, and she gasped. He took the opportunity of her open mouth to deepen the kiss, and she sighed as his tongue stroked hers, warm and inviting. He slid his hands up her ribcage over the tight dress, brushing her breasts, and then pulled back.

“I’m sure you look delightful in this pretty bra,” he murmured. “But I’d rather feel the real you. Can you do that miraculous trick girls do and take it off under your dress?”

“Are you sure?” Nerves filtered through her again. “It kind of props up everything that’s beginning to head south.” He just raised an eyebrow, however, and she cursed beneath her breath, trying to remind herself that she was supposed to be a slinky call girl. Slinky call girls didn’t talk about baby tummies and sagging breasts. “Sorry.”

First she took out the check he’d given her from her bra and popped it into the purse she’d left on the table. “Don’t want to lose that.” She reached behind and unclipped the bra, drew the straps down her arms beneath the sleeves of the dress, then pulled the garment out and tossed it onto the table. She glanced down. The dress was really more of a long, tight tube with small sleeves, and it clung to every part of her body, leaving absolutely nothing to the imagination. Her nipples stood out like buttons through the fabric, and her breasts looked huge.

“Wow.” Toby’s eyes gleamed. “You have an absolutely fantastic figure.”

Warmth spread through her at his admiration. “Thank you.”

“You’ve lost some weight.”

“Breastfeeding did that.” The words were out before she could stop them, and she bit her lip. Could she think of any more ways to turn him off?

But he didn’t look turned off. He ran his hands up her body to cup her breasts. “You’re so soft.”

“You’re not,” she said breathlessly as he pulled her to him, his erection obvious even through the jeans.

“Is that any surprise while you’re in my arms, so sensual and womanly?” He moved his large, warm hands over her, making her quiver as he ran his fingers up her back, then brought them around to cup her breasts again. He brushed his thumbs over her nipples, murmuring his approval as her eyes fluttered shut. “You smell fantastic,” he said. He nuzzled her neck and ear, and she shivered.

She kissed him again, holding his face with both hands as she delved her tongue hungrily into his mouth. He tasted divine. It had been so long since she’d kissed anyone—since she’d kissed him, in fact. How had she lived without this for so long?

He was coaxing her body awake, stirring long-forgotten sensations, and an ache grew between her thighs. Her nipples tightened in response to his touch, and she arched her back to push them into his gentle hands. He groaned.

Her fingers itched to touch his skin, so she began to undo the buttons of his shirt, gradually revealing his wide, bronzed chest, shaped with firm muscles. He went to slip the shirt off, but she shook her head. “No,” she whispered, “keep your fuck-me shirt on.”

His eyes widened with amusement. “My what?”

“You heard me. That shirt wants only one thing. You look so damn sexy dressed like that.”

He grinned. “Fine.” He held the bottom of her dress. “But I want you naked.”

Instinctively, she grasped his wrists, stopping him. A skintight dress was one thing. Being completely naked and not in utter darkness was another.

He wrested his hands free, and gently but firmly moved hers away. “My check is now in your purse,” he reminded her. “I seem to remember offering you an amount that would cover pretty much whatever I wanted.” He let go of her hands and held the hem of the dress again. “Arms up.” His voice was firm.

Her cheeks grew warm at the desire in his eyes. Closing her own, she lifted her arms.

He peeled the dress up her body and over her head. The fabric whispered to the floor. Fighting the urge to cover herself, she stood for a moment biting her lip. Even though her eyes were shut, she was sure she could feel his gaze burning through her.

Then his hand cupped her cheek, and she opened her eyes to see him smiling. “Hey, beautiful,” he said.

She looked down at herself, finding it difficult to see anything but the stretch marks and the way her muscles had loosened since childbirth. “You want your money back?”

In reply, he kissed her.
